My hen is lonely :( her friend died. What do I do?

So, about 4 months ago we went to the fair. We came home with an adult hen of some sort that is orange and speckled, and will stay tiny, and two baby Silkies- one black, and one white. The Black one made it 2 weeks, then passed. The White Silkie was now the size of the hen, and they got along...

Guess who just got summore chicks!

We went to the fair looking for a White Silkie.. and we ended up with two Silkies ( Not sure on the kinds ) and what they called a "Booted Non-Bearded Mille Fleur" Pullet. I picked out the ugliest ones, and I can't wait for them to fill in! ( let the record show i deliberately picked out the...

    Let's talk about Silkies!

Well, we have plenty chickens, but I've just always wanted a Silkie! So I have a few concerns/questions about them! 1) Are they temperamental? How's their attitude? Can I hold them? 2) How big --or how many lbs-- to they weigh/get when adult size? 3) Are they egg layers? 4) Are they impossible...

All my chicks survived the tornadoes!!

Well, we had two twisters rip our neighborhood in half about a week ago. A branch from our silver maple, bigger than our truck, crushed our coop. I walked- no RAN- down there to see the damage....and there they where..... Next to the destruction site..... Eating. So thank goodness we didn't...

Why doesn't my rooster care about the hens?

I had one...and it guarded "his girls" with fierce determination. Well, he passed and we have another roo who could care less about the ladies. Why doesn't he take charge? Idk what kind he is ( i forgot ) but here's a blurry pic of the fluffy boy.

Momma not protecting her babies? Remove them from others?

Well, she fights off us when we walk up to her; but she could care less when the other chicken attacks her babies. Usually we keep her and the chicks locked up in their big cage, but we figured we'd let them get out for a while. I had to keep throwing sticks near the red hen to keep her to lay...

    Chickens to AVOID?

Not sure if this is in the right thread...but are there any certain chickens that are downright mean? Any I should avoid getting because of their attitude?

Can I put different age/group chickens together?

We have two different groups of chickens that have two different house they sleep in at night. We'd like to put the younger ones in with the grownups w/o trouble. Make them share the same "nest". Will they fight? How should i introduce them?

How do I catch and hold my baby chicks?

Well, I can lock the hen (mom) away so she doesn't kill me, but I cant catch the tiny fur balls! I've been talking to them, and they should recognize me ( I've taken millions of pics since they popped out of their eggs) and I talk to them...but when I go to hold one, they run and scream bloody...

    Yes! A Chicken Forum! :d

Well, latest members of the family is our chickens. Not too long ago, we got two chickens, a yellow and a brown one, tiny little puff balls. Well, I used to carry the brown one a lot, you know, around the house lol. But, I never liked the yellow fuzzy butt cause it would peck my fingers off...
