I was sold an Isa Brown and a Cinnamon Queen but as they’ve grown into pullets I’m confused!
I thought the red white one was the Isa Brown but it looks like a Cinnamon pullet. The red with black doesn’t look like any Cinnamon Queen or Isa Btown pullet I’ve seen. Any help?
BTW: the others are 2...
I've been creating some fun chicken Ornaments for extra money, chickens eat a lot of food! Lol. Didn't know if anyone was interested in buying crocheted chicken Ornaments. I have specific ones I've made but can also make custom chickens. Each are $8.00 or 4 for $30. I take PayPal (they take...
I found one of our chickens, Lovelace, doing a weeble wobble impression today. She tips over. If I stand her up she tries to walk a bit but falls to her right.
Her comb is bright red. We brought her inside to a cage and are keeping an eye on her. She is eating well (made her feed of oatmeal...
I've been creating some fun chicken Ornaments for extra money, chickens eat a lot of food! Lol. Didn't know if anyone was interested in buying crocheted chicken Ornaments. I have specific ones I've made but can also attempt requests. Each are $7.50, or 4 for $29. I take PayPal and can ship up to...
I really think I know my answers but just wanted to confirm. I have 2 chickens, one is Ameraucana, they other is part Ameraucana and something else. Can't remember. Looks Ameraucana though. I'm thinking with the longer tail feathers and longer feathers on back that they're both boys but wasn't...
My chicks are about 18-19 weeks. This morning I discovered this.
Never had a problem before. My concern is Coccidiosis or if it could happen from stress. I sorta stressed them out last night. I had to freshen the coop and I did it too late and they were already in for the night. They ended up...
For three years we've wanted chickens. We tried hatching 3 years ago, that was a disaster. Then we put the idea on hold. But this year hubby was talked into building a coop and we picked out 6 chickies today! We're in love already! Wanna meet them? :D
This is Gwynevere, my dd's favorite. She is...
And now I'm getting nervous! We are setting up the brooder tonight. Hubby is building the coop over this holiday weekend. They'll be inside for a couple weeks I think.
My main newbie question right now is... We're getting them from Orscheln's a feed supply company. Do those places usually...
So this is our 2nd go around. Despite having good temps and humidity, we did not have any hatched eggs out of our dozen. It was our first time and the eggs came through the mail. I'm assuming the PO killed most of them. So I have popped almost 3 more dozen in the incubator and we'll see what...
Guess who is very very happy at this very very moment!
We're still waiting to see if the eggs we have will hatch (its day 21) but in the meantime, these came today!
Hot2Pot sent way more than I expected. Wonderful! Can't wait to start incubating them!
I lockdowned last night but now I'm worrying about if my eggs should be taken out of the egg carton and put on a flat surface, in case by some miracle some of them do hatch. Should they be sitting on fencing or a towel instead of the carton?
We tried on day 4, to see if we could see anything. Nothing. So hard with brown eggs too.
We tried again on day 11. We took pics of these. Hard to take pics when I've never taken pics of eggs before. I'll practice for next time I guess. These are the best ones that came out, although we...
Okay, I know we don't need to be candling yet (we're 76 hours in, on incubation) but we couldn't help ourselves! We read through all of the candling 101 in the learning center and kind of knew what we were looking for (tiny black dot probably and spider veins.)
We did not find ONE like that...
I don't know how long I've been looking at coops, months now. Some have good instructions, some don't. The easier, simpler ones look good but figuring out exactly what they used to make the simple coop takes a lot of planning.
I want a plan for a coop, cheap coop, simple coop w/ run and I want...
I'm wanting to build something so I can candle my incubating eggs. I saw on the how tos page they showed a can light. I don't have one of those. Is there another way, something from around the house I can use? Can I just hold it up to a flashlight or something? Any suggestions on what to use...
I was talking with a friend today who is sort of interested in having chickens but has such trouble processing soy. She had read and been told that most all feed chickens are given has soy in it. I know nothing about it, so I thought I would ask here. Is that true? And is there a non-soy feed...
This is our first time and the eggs just came in the mail less than an hour ago. I was going to wait a day to get them to room temp but my thermometer told me they were already around or above that, being in the mailman's hot truck so I went ahead and put them in the incubator.
I have 3 RIR...
He's bringing our very first eggs to incubate, and the delivery conf. says he has them. Why doesn't he hurry up already?!
I keep peeking out of the window to see if he's here yet. And I did get out of my PJs so I can greet him.
I've been thinking about the chicks we will have (getting ready to go in the incubator) and thinking about when we'll let them free range in the backyard. We'll have a fenced in coop to keep them safe but I'm wondering, for the times when we let them out and supervise them, how likely are they...
I am setting 12+ eggs for the first time on Friday (they should arrive in the mail tomorrow.) Waiting until then so dd can help. She gets home from camp then.
We're very excited to have our first chickens, I'm just worried that something will go wrong and I'll kill them. I've been struggling...
