I am so jealous of those of you who found the cockerel collars worked.
My first try was a Serama lad who would not shut up, he crowed for 2 hours solid out of every 3, and just kept getting louder and louder.
It took me a whole week to adjust the collar tight enough and it barely dented the...
Ooh I want to enter but can't access my photos as my laptop has pretty much died.
Tried to save some to OH's computer so here is hoping it worked. :D
Name of bird: Meep
Age: 2.5 years
Breed: Belgian Bearded d'Anver (silver quail)
Bantam
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) She is a Belgian Bearded d'Anver, 3 weeks old, feeling thin as not eating much..
2) What is the behavior, exactly. She started off a day ago, limping heavily on one leg, she was obviously...
Doesn't look like split tail to me, just a young bird who hasn't grown all his feathers yet. I would imagine as he is holding his tail low, he is probably the bottom of the bunch of cockerels and doesn't want to draw attention to himself so he is adopting a submissive pose. :)
Hi, I didn't buy one in the end as no one had been able to tell me if you could hatch in one. I just saved up the extra and bought an Rcom20 instead. :)
I have a teeny serama who is 4 weeks old, he is smaller than 3 day old d'Anver chicks.
I've been told he is a micro but can't seem to find much info on them?
Excuse the mess on the brooder and drinking platform, they only ever look clean for a few minutes.
Hi, I have a brown red hen and a birchen hen, this year I would also like to get a splash hen and a wheaten hen.
Obviously not for showing, being a mixed colour flock, but what colour cockerels would everyone recommend to get the prettiest colours out of that mix please?
I was thinking maybe a...
See now I often don't see the pointed feathers starting on d'Anvers til about 8-12 weeks old at the earliest, I'll keep my fingers tightly crossed that for the first time ever I have more girls than boys then.
Ok took loads of dreadful pics so will just post up a couple, I'm not kidding when I say they look like girl combs, lol. They are so pale. Just to remind you that these little brash squabblers are 6 weeks old.......
This one above is the beggar that had me. :D
So what do...
Does anybody know if splash d'Anvers develop later than usual?
I have 3 splash that are 6 weeks old now and they have no colour in their combs and haven't got big raised combs yet either but they sure as hell act like boys. They all 3 square up to each other and one of them attacked my hand the...
Its most definately a hen, she's POL age now and her comb is just beginning to grow and go pink. The first time, I left them together two weeks before taking out the troublemakers, as it had got to the point that the lavender hen wouldn't leave the coop and was miserable.
Its been a week since...
Hi, I'm wondering if you guys can help me? I'm having such trouble with my little d'Anver flock this year.
I tried to introduce two new girls to my flock - a lavender and a birchen, they'd grown up next to my flock which are all this years birds anyway except the boy who is last years.
Straight...
So what would I get if I crossed this buff columbian type girl with my silver quail boy?
Also, she seems to be getting slightly more markings as she is getting older, I was really hoping they'd get less. I love her rich ginger colour but am very undecided as to whether its worth keeping her. I...
In your 3rd picture from the top, the hen nearest, what colour is she? I have one identical and she was from a buff columbian type boy with a quail hen.
Problem is, if I introduce the placid hen first, then the cockerel then the aggressive hen, the aggressive hen will be all on her own for a week. Thats why I was thinking, either introduce the cockerel first, then the two hens, or introduce the aggressive hen first, then the cock and placid hen...
