Mine are on starter for the first 4 weeks. Then switched to broiler grower to finish. I also house mine inside and bring in clumps of sod for them to pick at.
Trying to figure out what this boy might be, His comb is...( I have no idea what you'd call it, partially single then it diverges into two essentially at the top. His eyes are a yellowy color, best pic I could get of him, he's camera shy. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you!
I will post pics tomorrow since I forgot to take some today, I saw a tiny dark spot and cut there but there was nothing underneath as far as I could see,
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
RIR Hen, 1 year. She's fairly porky. Not skinny at all.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
swollen foot, limping.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
2 weeks of gradual...
I had girl have her foot get squashed in a doorway. Nothing was broken but she kept it tucked up and couldn't stand on it. She went into the hospital, for a week came out fine.I just gave her rest.
Temps are fine. There doesn't appear to be any sign of actual illness, because nothing to my knowledge should kill that quickly. There should conceivably be some sort of outward symptoms. Its only the under 1 month old's that are dying off. They're all currently in the barn in separate brooders...
I bought some EE chicks at an auction on Saturday. Most appeared in decent shape, some were missing a few feathers, however all seemed active and happy, no outward signs of any illness, clear nostrils, clear eyes, energetic and frisky. They ate and drank like starving lions when they got home...
I wouldn't "treat" it, I;d leave that one heal as best it can on its own. Since its a loss of circulation as opposed to an injury (i gather at least) leave it take its course, it could just have residual numbness? Or the circulation was cut off too long and she could lose the toes, I'd keep her...
I think the meant hydrogen peroxide....or they want steak sauce....
I'd cleanse it then put polysporin on it, if it were my chicken, but someone else might have a better idea!
Hi!
One of my RSL's has decided to go broody, she started this 2 1/2 days ago, if I put fertile eggs under her tomorrow what are the odds she'll sit the whole time? Does broodiness only last 21 days and they snap out of it? Can they be indefinately broody??? I know nothing in general about...
Don't quote me on this, but Im assuming she's broody. One of my production hens (who is apparently a throwback to days gone by) has also decided to become broody. She tried to eat my face tonight.
Aside from proudflesh becoming a problem, it appears to be healing nicely. Luckily it wasnt too deep!! She might get lame on it though. But hopefully not!
