    Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

Thanks, Jean. And here I was thinking the blacks would help all around, including that barring. I will have to watch to see if using these splits I just hatched creates more barring down the line. I'll be curious to see if I have gold leakage in these splits. I just can't be sure the straw...

Hi Jean, You bring up an interesting point about areas for improvements in the bantam lavenders. I have a few females who don't have an appealing transition from back to tail - very abrupt and carried high - but not all. I also noticed a couple of the males with lower wing carriage but not...

Congratulations - albeit in advance - for your new lavender Ams coming today. I had my first two hatch overnight with a third almost there. But these guys are all black - intentionally! - as I decided to start the year with splits. My bantam lavs had a few areas for improvement where I hoped...

Ameraucanas are definitely not sex-linked. It usually takes a couple of months before you know sexes for sure in the solid color (self blue, black, white, etc.) birds. -Temple North Stonington

    Bantam Ameraucana Thread!

Happychick24, You have a very cool looking rooster but I hope your heart wasn't set on him being an Ameraucana. He's pretty much missing most of the characteristics that define the breed.

I know that the secretaries of both Ameraucana clubs keep the listings very current but maybe some of the listers don't keep the secretaries current! But, yes, try the forums on the clubs' webpages or their Facebook pages and good luck. I think it's a GREAT IDEA to have folks on this forum...

YAY to them being a "Hot Chicken" but ARRRRRRRRRGH to the Easter Egger pic! We have someone in the ABC (and AA) who contacted Tractor Supply and was able to get them to change the labeling on their "Americana" chicks to Easter Eggers. It's all about education but it's super frustrating when...

    Connecticut!

I had the same experience last year. Granted, I was looking for birds in May so it was a bit late but there were many that didn't even bother to respond. Don't give up, though. Instead of email, try the Forums on both clubs' webpages. People are pretty responsive there and it's a good place...

    Connecticut!

I have bantam Ameraucanas for breeding and showing. I live in North Stonington. You can find other Ameraucana breeders in the area by checking out the breeder listings on www.ameraucana.org or www.ameraucanaalliance.org.

Hey there and welcome to chicken-dom! Hatchery chicks typically aren't bred for looks meaning what you see in the catalog and what you get are probably going to look quite different. Think of a tv commercial for fast food and the way it really looks when you pull it out of the bag. But...

Totally agree that this is a great deal if you aren't dead set on a particular variety.

    Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

My thoughts exactly, buckabucka. Many of the breeders have already announced that their waiting list is full so any chick produced now go to fill those pre-orders. I do understand. I was in the same position last year - worse, actually, since I was looking for chicks in May! John Blehm of...

    Considering Pheasants

I picked up my first red golden chicks this past summer. I have bantams. I keep the pheasants in proximity to but not in with the bantams. I think it depends on what you're looking for in having birds. You can't let the pheasants free range like chickens and they'll never be as friendly...

Hi there... This is the LAVENDER Ameraucana thread. Did you mean you were looking for lavenders which are a silvery sort of color or actual silver Ameraucanas which are a completely different variety? Here are examples of both colors in bantam pullets: Lavender pullet Silver pullet (very...

Really? I have three cockerels from you and they all have nice tail feathers. They aren't quite the same quality as silvers but I think they are pretty respectable!

    Lavender Ameraucana bantams

I got my start in bantam Ameraucanas - including lavenders - from John Blehm at Fowl Stuff. If you were hoping to pick up rather than ship, both the Ameraucana Alliance and the Ameraucana Breeder Club have breeder directories on their websites where you can search by state.

I would like to echo this by also thanking John at FowlStuff for all the work he did for the breed and also for giving me my start in bantam Ameraucanas. I was so proud to take some of the lavender and silver chicks I grew out from his stock to my first show this past weekend.

I agree poultry color genetics can be complicated... and this is coming from someone with a zoology degree!
