Had one pip about eight hours ago, settling in for a nice quiet evening. I put 19 on lockdown Monday evening so we just might be right on target
for Christmas morning suprise.
How cool would it be staying up all night watching chickens hatch on Christmas Eve?
After I answered you on how to get a fox , I realized there are people on here that are against eliminating any kind of animal.
I love animals, I treat my dogs better than most people treat their kids. I take very good care of my chickens too, but as much as I love my dogs they will meet their...
Put an ad on craigslist, I'm sure there is someone near you that would trap or kill a fox free of charge. Just remember if there is one there are more. Get them all.
These kind of clowns need to watch their step, you come after my chickens and I'm going into the "backyard hog farm" hobby.
I will be guarding my pets with automatic weapons:D
Layer crumbles or layer pellets are both fine, but I go through a lot more feed if I use crumbles. The birds will throw food around when they hit the
feeders in the morning, and the crumbles just get trampled into the ground. When the pellets get spread the birds will still eat them off the...
Here is hoping. I have 21 in the bator since last friday. A mix of BO, RIR and whatever is laying the green eggs:rolleyes:. My LG bator is keeping near perfect temp
and humidity.
I am in the planning stages of building a cabinet incubator/hatcher to start using after the first of the year. I...
I'm in for a Christmas hatch. Set 21 last night of Buff Orphingtons, Barred Rock and RIR's Hoping for a decent fertility rate.
This is my second hatch and had a 90% hatch rate the first time. One of the first batch was not fertile but the other nine all hatched,
had to assist one of those out...

How long did you wait? was it an obvious deformity like the body was definately out of whack or the chick was just in an odd position?
We waited about a week and a half. It was an obvious deformity.
Oh, the one I had to "peel" came out Ok, I hope this is the case here.
I would also...
How long was she (assuming here that it's not a Rooster) stuck in her shell, how far did she break out on her own? If she doesn't seem distressed or in pain I would bet she will be OK. The ones I've hatched so far have been very wobbly and uncoordinated for about the first day, the one I...

about 12 or 1 this afternoon.
I'd give it at least till morning and see if she is getting better. Dip her beak in a very small amount of water and see if she seems to drink a little.
I had one get stuck in the shell trying to hatch last Feb. I had to peel the shell off the chick, I never thought she would live but had to try. It took a few days before she could stand up but she pulled through and is steady laying eggs now
We have a chocolate lab, I don't know if she would keep predetors away, but she would probably lay on and hatch the eggs for the hens.Hershey is the kind that would mother a baby squirrel, or any other critter for that matter.

LadySonjas "builder" here. Glad you like the coop, I was going to put about 8 nesting boxes, 4 wide 2 high with a cover over at least 4 till they are needed. The six birds in there now are just the begining, we have 9 more in the brooder box and most likely will add more as time goes by...
