I see...I didn't realize the forum already knew about him. There's only a couple videos online of the killing and butchering of muscovy and he's one of them.
ETA: I read through the entire thread about his channel and gotta say his ducks are still treated better than ones that are factory farmed.
Muscovy is a red meat similar to veal. I'm raising muscovy for the first time to butcher as well so I don't have advice for you yet...there's a great YouTube channel called 50 Ducks in a hot tub and he shows how he butchers his muscovies. Good luck :)
I also want to add my Campbells and Cayuga were fairly quiet. The Campbells were chatty and my Cayuga quacked every now and then. The Rouen I had was very noisy. DH kept threatening to throw her in a pot.
This is the one I used to have before we moved. We used sand in the pen and large flat stones near their pool to rinse poop. We had a deep litter system in the coop. It never smelled in the coop but next time I'd like bigger windows. My husband is building a new coop this weekend.
Hi :) I'd like to join for October. My first hatching eggs arrived in the mail today, they are Welsh Harlequin duck eggs. 5/7 survived without breaking but I realized when I candled them that they all have ruptured/wonky air cells. It's disappointing but I hope I can get some to hatch. They were...
We use the deep litter system over here and I love it. We have four ducks who are in their coop from night until the morning. At the end of every week I turn it over with a shovel and smell it to make sure it doesn't smell like ammonia. I've been surprised lately that the bedding has smelled...
Thank you so much for your responses! We already wanted to have our cayuga necropsied but I didn't realize it was free for SoCal residents. We have her body outside in a styrofoam box now but we'll move her to the fridge.
Have you started using a new bag of feed, or a new brand? We are...
Please help me. My ducks are dying and I have no idea why. Two days ago we found one of our khaki campbells dead. She was curled up and had been fine that morning. I couldn't think of why she died and I thought it may have been from an accident since it was so windy that day.
Today when I came...
I'm so excited! I discovered our first egg yesterday and just kept saying "OMG!" We have two khaki girls, one rouen, and one cayuga. I'm pretty sure the egg yesterday and the one today came from a khaki girl since I hear they lay during the winter. I fried the one I found yesterday and it was so...
I put out a feeder of Flockraiser for my four girls each morning and evening for half an hour. I bought the bag of Flockraiser crumbles late August and I still have some left. I'm picking up a new bag of the pellets today, but the bag of crumbles can probably last another week. I've noticed my...
My Cayuga is very quiet. When I was catching my ducks to give them all check ups the Cayuga was the only one who didn't sound like I was murdering her.
I have a crested Rouen. I think she's awesome and my friends love her the most because of her "mohawk" but I didn't go out to specifically buy a crested duck. She was my "rouen" order from California Hatchery and they get their stock from Metzer. Seems like there can be a chance for getting a...
