I have been watching the breed for about 5yrs now and seriously thinking about getting a Seabie for about 3. I have just about talked myself into it. I have decided to get one, and make it a house goose. My question is are males or females better pets? I would prefer a girl. However this is a...
Last year I got some Midget Whites form Welps and ended up with white turkeys but not so much on the Midget thing. I got white Hollands, some commercial whites and some nice midget hens but no Toms. I was pretty unhappy.
I would like to get some more Midgets this spring, but don't even know...
I would love to get started in geese. Like most now days Im on a limited income. I have some pretty darn nice Muscovy and Orpington that will do well in any show. ( Orps not Muscovy) In Muscovy I have a new mutation that has not been released to the public yet but is being worked on with well...
Im starting to set aside my breeding groups for 2012 and other then my genetic projects I don't really care what colors I end up with... sooooo.......
I wondered what colors were most popular with people this year. Just like chickens we duck and especially Muscovy breeders go through fads. Are...
Have you ever noticed that almost no hatchery carries Muscovy? On line bird auctions don't sell Muscovy. Have you ever wandered why, then they are one of the most popular poultry, not just ducks.. but poultry in the US, that you can't buy them on line?
It doesn't take much research to figure...
We are having duck for Thanksgiving and although I have learned allot about plucking a duck, it still takes way to long. Does anyone know a way to get it plucked and table ready with in less then an hour?
I don't know if you can tell in the photo, but the red is on the cheek only and there is a white line down her neck. All photos were taken today, Nov 6, 2011. She is an immature hen.

Im working on a website that is an attempt to label and describe all colors of Muscovy ducks and help people identify what they have and what they will get when mating certain pairs. I don't have photos of every color out there. I would especially appreciated photos of solids, and unusual...
I will not get into vent sexing as you can hurt the duckling. If you have a good eye you can sex looking at the legs of the ducklings. The males will look like over grown monsters with tree trucks for clumsy legs. The females will be well suited to the size of their legs. Females will grow their...
I got up this AM to 2 dead and one sick duckling. At first I thought it may be the cold, but on watching the one still alive and examining the live one I saw the bills were scraped like they had been thrashing around. The live one doesn't have this however he seems to have lost some control of...
one of my favorite little hens.

Im looking for other people in the US who have the sepia gene in their flock. Its rare here and I would like to hook up with others who have it so we have a larger gene pool.
Since our Muscovy genetics discussions are all over the place, I thought I would try and isolate them so we can actually learn how all these wonderful genes go together. Post your unusual Muscovy color pics here for discussion.
With the raise of GMO feeds I have started worring about the fact we eat the eggs and meat from our birds, who are fed GMO grains. I have started to study about making our own more natural feeds. Anyone else making their own natural non GMO feeds?
Just wondering what you use.
I know the white head is genetic, and most pieds are white birds with spots, so.. what is a mostly solid bird with a white head BUT that dark spot remaining on the top of the head after their final mature molt? Are they white headed? or ... what?
When we breed, as breeders of any species, we try to remain "pure" well.. for the most part. So, why with Muscovy do we as domestic breeders strive for the red, not black ( like the wild counter part, and original duck) caruncle?
