Hey! I'm Jenn. My family and I live in the (already-full-of-chickens) state of Delaware. We live on a one-acre property and are planning on adding about 5-10 chickens to our already fun-loving family of 4 this spring.
As a person who loves new experiences with animals, I am hoping...
hey, just recently, our 7 chickens started roaming away from the coop area(our chickens just started to free range and explore)
anyway, we have this giant short-needled pine tree a few feet from our coop and they love to scratch around and peck under the tree.
i want to know, has anyone else...
i have the pictures!!!!! but i can't figure out how to post them how do i upload a picture directly from the image zone? please tell me, , or you won't get to see the little fluffy-butts
Our 7 chicks have hatched yesterday and today(), and i'm wondering if anyone can help with figuring out breeds.
i'm pretty sure the light yellow one is a leghorn. the other colors include 3 black w/ small yellow spots, 2 light brown with no other markings, and a light brown one with two dark...
Japanese bantams are soooooo pretty! i hope i get to have one when our mystery chicken eggs hatch! what's even better is my best friend is part Japanese, so she csn come up with names to correspond to personality and colors and so forth. i am definatly a bantam lover through and through!
Poler Bear! they're wild, beautiful, and white (w/black skin like a silkie)
That would be the best name,in my oppinion. either that or Snowdust, or Snowdrift. My dad and brother thought of these; Bantom of the Opera or Puff Mama.
My agri-science class is incubating chicks as a class project (that is where my family is getting our first dozen chicks once the school is done with them) and i am really hoping for a silkie chick! there are a couple of creamy colored eggs in the bator, but once they hatch, i predict that most...

THANK YOU that was just the info my family was looking for! we have just started construction on our coop and needed to know how big to make the nesting boxes.

when it comes to computers, we're bird-brained! (no offence )
As a chicken-owner-to-be myself, i look everywhere for new ideas on our coop. we are planning on converting a smaller wooden playhouse into our coop. you have some great ideas! have you thought about making a door behind the roost so you can clean the floor from outside?
After reviewing all of the replies, most of them warning of disaster, it sounds like some glimmer of hope in the more recent replies.. we stumbled on an excelent solution to our housing issue this morning while seaching for a new site.instead of buying a pre-biult coop, were going , to convert...
