I love your incubator! I am modeling mine after yours. Couple questions. did you put anything in front of the fan to keep the chicks from sticking their beak in it? Is there anything you would do different?
I have a semi-automatic egg turner. (I don't have to open the lid) egg tray is on a rod with strings attached to either end. I just pull one string or the other to rotate it. I am considering purchasing a replacement egg turner motor to fully automate it. Do the incubator motors have internal...
I didn't think to check her gizzard. I will have to remember that if there is a next time. Stupid question but do chickens on fermented feed need grit. I feel like I should already know the answer to this!
This is the bird we culled because of crop issues. Her crop was as big as both of my fists! on top of that she was very skinny. Don't mind the horrible butchering job. This is the first time my husband and I have butchered by ourselves. We definitely made a mess of it.
I am culling a hen today for a serious crop issue. I am noticing in my research that a lot of the pictures of crop issues appear to be cinnamon queens/golden comets. Has anyone found this to be true in their flocks? Are they genetically disposed to crop issues? Just curious what everyone else...
I don't know why they won't go out during the day, I might try kicking them out during the day and feeding them outside. At night mine will not go in the coop unless the light is on inside. If they do go in they all roost on the lowest roost because they can't see to get up to the top ones.
I has leaning towards culling. I haven't read anyone with great success curing sour crop. I like my chickens but they are not pets and I am not going to medicate it on and off the rest of it's life. I am not putting her in a bra either. I will give her 3 days to clear up and then make a...
Ok we milked her and got some fluid out. No antibiotics or wormers or anything different from the other birds. she has had a saggy crop for a while, but being my first chickens I just thought she was fat. I should have known better she is more towards the bottom of the pecking order so I was...
Bee, the thought of milking her
The thought of milking out her crop makes me sick to my stomach. Besides I have no idea how to do that. Off to you tube to see if I can find a how to.
I just caught her and caged her. The crop is squishy, huge & full. She just pooped and it looks normal. The girls had yogurt every few days because my family wouldn't eat it. Should I try massaging it until she throws up?
