    Flies that bite

You can set up several fly traps around the property. They fill up fast. It won’t stop them, but will help reduce their numbers.

Do you add any electrolytes to the water when it’s hot? She may be more prone to overheating than the others. I like to use Rooster Booster vitamins and electrolytes with lactobacillus. If your chicken walks and runs at other times but lays down a lot if it’s hot, then it sounds like heat...

Try putting pressure on your chick’s pads to see if there’s any sensitivity. It doesn’t look like bumble foot, but do this to make sure it’s not just early stages without any external signs. See if you can feel anything hard in the pad that moves around.

How old is this bird? Any splayed leg issues? I found this great resource for leg problems. Read it over and see if anything resembles what your chicken is doing. It’s pretty inclusive of everything. http://www.poultrypedia.com/poultry-podiatry

Hmm. I don’t see any scab, or anything that looks like a pus pocket. Is your bird limping? Any swelling on top of the foot also?

prayer warriors (following Jesus Christ, everyone welcome)

Did a section of Bible study tonight with the men’s ministry on the prodigal son. At the end of the parable, we don’t know what the older son did after his discussion with his father. Did he forgive his younger brother and go celebrate with him? Did he hold on to the resentment for both his...

Great. Less wind is good for you and your birds. They’ll love another window. BTW, your chickens look huge in that picture. :lau

Such a good looking roo. I’m expecting a silver-laced Wyandotte chick in August, along with others. They are so beautiful, and it’ll be my first rose-combed bird. No roo’s allowed in Fremont either. :( Good luck re-homing him.

Forgive me, I haven’t been here in a few days and I’m trying to get back up to speed on our conversations. I think the point of “Psalm 103:12 KJV As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” and the other verses is that God has forgiven us. No matter...

    Losing feathers.

Mites or fleas could also be the culprit, but I would think the girls would have it too. I don’t see any kind of skin condition where he might be scratching himself raw? Although, if he did start out with a small bare spot, the hens could also be pecking at it and causing a larger bare spot...

    Losing feathers.

Check for lice. This can cause your birds to peck out their feathers.

    Head shaking

Did they have any access to grass? I’ve seen this when a chicken has a long blade of grass stuck in their throat. Are they getting grit?

Is the ‘huffing’ normal or an issue?

Sorry, I’m not hearing it in the video.

    Snack or just food?

I don’t think a couple handfuls of weeds is a big deal. They would probably eat as much if they were free ranging. How many chickens are we talking about?

    Some swelling around the eye?

It still could need more time if she had been pecked. Have you tried to flush the eye in case there’s something in there? The eye itself looks good, and I don’t see any discharge, so it doesn’t seem to be an infection.

    chick not getting fluffy

A great learning experience for you, and for me. Thanks for the info. One day I would like to try to hatch eggs.
