I have two incuBators, one I hate! The chicks are always fine right up till it’s time to hatch and then about 50%+ never do or need assisted. ALL because they are positioned wrong! This incubator does not have a turner.
I have another one that I am using for the first time with a turner. The...
I got eggs shipped to me that I set 6 days ago. When I candled them before setting all the air cells were totally destroyed. I thought I would set them anyway just in case. I allowed them to rest 24 hours beforehand and stored and incubated them upright. Day 6 I candled them and not a single one...
So every time I have hatched chicks I have always had at LEAST one chick who couldn't hatch because it's head ended up tucked into his tummy.
Well today is day 22 for my eggs. They all hatched already except for two. I candled them and one was was already dead (head was tucked into belly) and...
my broody duck is currently sitting on 11 eggs and is STILL laying?!?! I candled her eggs today and there is one that is likely day 10+, 3 that look like maybe around day 7ish, one maybe around day 4ish and then two or three others that looks like maybe say 2 or 3 (or maybe quitters I can't...
He is about a year old, the two pekins he is with are 4 months old. He is smaller than them. I don't think he can fly... I've never even seen him attempt it...
I have a one year old peckin who is "broody". I noticed a couple weeks ago that she started sitting in her nest for a good part of the day but would then leave for a few hours here and there. Then I ended up moving my chickens into the same building as her and they trashed her nest. A few days...
So my grandma has recently started injecting dye into her incubated eggs, the result of course is colourful chicks! I have been reluctant to try it as I didnt feel it was worth risking the life of the growing embryo. However she was visiting here a couple weeks ago and showed me on a fridge egg...
Ok, so my last imcubation (old rooster) i believe had between a 70-80% fertility rate.. It could have been less but definetly not more. And only ONCE ever have any of my
Leghorn eggs been fertile (I have tried several times to hatch them). Now about two weeks ago I brought home an Ameraucana...
I'm pretty sure this is a cockerel. He is about 2 weeks old and I noticed he has some feathers that are pointy and almost like a third row, not sure if that makes sense but here is a pic!
Just got this guys given to me, was wondering if anyone could tell me what breed he might be or at least his color? His comb looks like it almost wanted to be a pea comb but the single comb took over. (If that makes sense) thanks:)
So this is my secconed hatch in this incubator. It's old as the hills and still air. I am on day 6 and I can not for the life of me get my humidity past 20%! I candled today and my air cells seem too large. I have a paper plate full of water and 4 sponges in there I don't have room to add water...
My chicks started hatching yesterday and so far all the ones hatched have feathered leg. My big rooster who is just a mix is obviously not the dad as he does not have feathered legs. But I also have some sort of bantam with feathered legs and feet and a silki. Is there any way for me to tell...
My first chick hatched around noon yesterday, it still looks very wet, he looks like his feathers are crusty and clumped together but "dry". One chick that hatched a few hours after him is already dry. I would like to move them to the brooder... Should I use a warm cloth to clean the little guy...
Ok so I had my temp bang on 100-101 degrees before I set my eggs. (Digital thermometer) and of course as soon as I set them it started reading 103-104!!!! And I could not get it down. So I went and bought a non digital one and put it in too. Now the digital is reading 100-101 again and the other...
I got this guy from my grandma, she told me he was an ameraucana (which clearly he is not) but she has told me 100 times he is a blue/green egg laying breed. Is he just an EE? Anything else he might be? He has yellow legs with black molting on them, no feathering.
I was told she was a hen but upon reading more about silkis I am not sure.... She/he seems to have streamers and a pretty large comb. But I am yet to hear him/her crow or see him chase around any hens. She/he is quite shy and to herself.
