DID I JUST KILL MY DUCKS!!!! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You do need to up your temp to 99.5 degrees, but even more important is to get the humidity DOWN FAST. 90% is WAY too high for incubation. It should be running around 65% and up it to 73% the last 3 days of incubation. Duck eggs need to be turned 3 times a day as well.

The New Addition to the Flock

I don't spend much time here because the site just loads WAY too slow now and I still can't figure out how to navigate around it, but I wanted to share this, especially with Miss Lydia. This is the newest addition to our flock. She ALMOST didn't make it, but she's a little fighter so we've...

    The Bessemer Project

You're going to use a Silver Appleyard drake to create Snowy genetics? That will probably turn into a genetic train wreck...

    The Bessemer Project

Quote: What I am referring to when I say to start with breeders that meet the Standard of Perfection is this-when trying to develop a breed, you would, I assume, be crossing 2 other breeds with a specific goal in mind based on the characteristics/genetics of the 2 parents-if not, how did...

    The Bessemer Project

Hi Miss Lydia! My ducks have been keeping me hopping! Missed visiting with you, too! Do you have FB? I'm over there quite a bit chatting with duck people.

    The Bessemer Project

I guess the basis of my frustration with some of these projects is this-when there are so many existing breeds and varieties that need work, why build another one? Also, the words "culling heavily" always bother me. I have yet to figure out what that really means and probably DON'T want to...

    2012 Waterfowl Breeders Directory

In order to get NPIP certified, simply call the the State Veterinarian Diagnostic Lab which is attached to Texas A&M. It's free to get certified. The site inspection by the State IS free and the offsites sales permit is $25(you already knew that, though). In order to show, you do have to get...

If a duck flips on it's back

Usually they can right themselves, BUT, I've heard of some of the Call ducklings(short, short legs, teeny wings and kinda pudgy bodies) dying because they can't flip themselves back over. Give ducky something it can get up against to get some leverage in case it flips again. Good luck! :)

Suspect my drake has a serious problem.

Is it possible that he has a prolapse? That can happen when their organ doesn't draw back up fully and a poo ball can form on the prolapsed part. I would swim him in some warmish water and give him some antibiotics. If you can isolate him so he's not trying to breed and so you can keep the...

Snowy Call Ducks or another breed?

I think you may be right-that looks like a Snowy pattern. :) They may be Call ducks, just larger ones. :) Cute!

    Call ducks

I have 2 Call drakes that are as aggressive and "bitey" as Calls can be. They like to grab the skin between your thumb and index finger and hang on. I think it's pretty hilarious, myself. One of my drakes likes to grab me by the pants leg and shake it like a dog with a bone. I act like I'm...

    Bluing?

In my opinion, it's safe. It says you can use it on pets on the bottle. I've used it a few times on my white ducks and used JUST enough to turn the water blue. All has been well and I've seen no red eyes, no snotties or any other ill effects from it.

Oh, my gosh, I'm going to a show!

I would bring my own food and water and cups/containers for them. Zip ties may be OK, but some shows require a numbered band. I would bring some extra pine shavings, too. They usually have them at the shows, but it's always good to have your own. Good luck to you and your ducks!

    Cutiest duckling breed! (Poll)

While I am partial to the Call ducklings(because that's the only breed I have), there is NO SUCH THING as an ugly duck or duckling.
