    Dying Quail

My boyfriend ordered 50 newly hatched quail to raise for a project. He has had them three days and about 10 have died so far. They all die the same way; they lay splayed on their sides and gasping for air. What could cause this? I was thinking too much heat, but have no idea. Thanks.

    Helping a chick hatch

This bantam egg I have has been trying to hatch out for about 2 days now and it has a pretty big hole in the egg. It is still breathing, moving, and chirping but I don't think it is able to hatch on its own. It hasn't made anymore progress in the last 18 hours. Should I help it hatch or leave it...

    Hatching Some Eggs

So the only reason I have opened the incubator was to get some chicks out, but before I did I made sure that there were no external pips. I still haven't seen any eggs move. Could I candle them to make sure they're alive?

    Hatching Some Eggs

So it has been about 4 hours and still no movement from what I have seen. Is there a possibility they have died or do they rest for this long?

    Emergency Help Please

So I have 10 total chicks that have hatched. One hatched today about 8 hours ago. I noticed that it seemed to have trouble walking in the incubator so I took it out and inspected it an then stuck it in the brooder. It seems to have trouble walking, is breathing slightly harder than the other...

    Chick wants out! Help!

To increase the humidity, I just pour warm water through one of the air holes. And as for your other question..I wouldn't assist with it yet. Sometimes if you mess with it, it does more harm than good.

    Marking Chicks?

I am raising some chicks for a project at school and I need a safe way to mark them to be able to tell them apart. I heard food coloring works. DO you have to dilute it or can I just put a little dot on them?

    Temperature and Newly Hatched Chickies

In honor of my worried mother, she wants me to ask a question. I have one hatched chick in the incubator and plenty more starting to pip. Is it ok to leave it in the incubator at 99-100 degrees? She thinks that it will overheat, but I heard that it will be fine until most of the chicks hatch.

    Shaking Chick

So my chick hatched about an hour and a half ago. It has been active and chirping etc. so I left it alone and I just came back and I noticed that it appears to be shaking. Not in like spasms, but lightly shaking. Should I amp the heat up or is this normal until it dries?

    Hatching Questions..

So right now I'm on day 20 with 1 very defined external pip, 2 slight external pips, and 1 chick that I know has an internal pip. In addition to all the eggs in the incubator, I have two eggs that I added in 4-5 days later. Once these first chicks hatch out and dry off, will it be ok to open the...
