Raising Chickens and Special Needs Kids

Just wanted to pop in and say hi! Sounds like lots of good news I've been missing out on! GREAT to hear it BLOOIE!!! Sorry, I haven't been around much. This forum and website seems to hate my computer. I find the only browser that works OK with it is Edge, and that's only if I come here...

    LETS SEE THOSE ROOSTERS

This is my 3 month old "surprise" rooster. He's a Salmon Faverolle, sold with a group of pullets. We're all enjoying watching the change he's going through as he slowly becomes more and more beautiful by the day.

Plastic chicken Deer fencing for chicken run?

Here's a picture with one of my chicks, showing the hardware cloth we used (I still have to run some down further on the bottom, just in this area), just to give an idea that we're talking about the same material: I'm not sure about gauge. I think it MIGHT be more like 19. I think the...

Plastic chicken Deer fencing for chicken run?

See, now when you say Deer fencing, I think of this: http://www.amazon.com/Tenax-Guardian-Safety-Fence-100-Feet/dp/B00JNTYX3Y/ref=sr_1_8?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1462113303&sr=1-8&keywords=deer+fencing More like snow fence. I know I've seen some that's more heavy duty - thicker plastic...

Plastic chicken Deer fencing for chicken run?

I think a lot of animals could chew through it, but that doubled up with chicken wire should work fairly well. Maybe both along the bottom (presuming your chicken wire is about 3-4' high) and the deer fencing alone for another few feet, and it SHOULD be decent for the top). OR, you could use...

Ended Official BYC Contest - Chicken and Egg Recipes - Win a BYC Cookbook!

You'll have to let me know if you try it! I haven't actually made it for anyone but my DH and kids, and while I've given the recipe to ONE person, I never did hear back if she tried it or not. If my 20 year old son finds out I'm making it though, you can bet your bottom he'll be over in a...

    Any Home Bakers Here?

I feel you on the weight loss! I have been working my tail off, and taking a prescription medication to up my metabolism to help. I've lost about 25 lbs in the past six months. I've very much missed my fresh homemade baked goods. However, it hasn't been as difficult as I thought it would be...

    Any Home Bakers Here?

Best Spam I've been exposed to in a while! ;) I submitted a recipe! BUTTER - ha! I learned about making butter in a mixer by accident when I was young. My mom wasn't too happy that she'd have to run out to the store to pick up more whipping cream. I purposely made butter with my girls one...

Here's my submission - Buffalo Chicken Soup: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/buffalo-chicken-soup Sorry my pictures aren't better, they were taken a few years ago on a cell phone! I'll try to remember to update photos next time I make this! :) Thanks for "spamming" the Home Bakers Thread...

    Buffalo Chicken Soup

Intro: This is my personal take on Buffalo Chicken Soup... mild to medium Buffalo chicken wing soup (from a gal that was raised on wings in the Buffalo area)! I looked at a lot of recipes and didn't care for those that included cheese in them because a cheesy soup does not remind me, even...

Raising Chickens and Special Needs Kids

Blooie, I LOVE the way you think! :) And now it's my turn for a really long one... warning... if you are an overly sensitive person who's dealing with fuddled feelings of raising a child that's recently been diagnosed with some type of autism spectrum disorder, stop reading now. Book mark this...

    Any Home Bakers Here?

For whatever reason, I haven't taken a bunch of pics lately and shared enough in this thread. My littlest one ADORES holidays and finding a way to celebrate with food. So, for April Fools she wanted to make something we could trick everyone with and we went on an internet search. We found...

Where to locate the compost bin, near the coop?

Good to see the thread still going. Lots of good ideas and suggestions in here! I know there's a ton of other compost type posts around the forums as well... but the "how far from the coop" - I'm not sure if it was addressed in other threads. Thanks for the thoughts, everyone that's...

LOVING all these little chickies! Mine are getting too big too fast! We just got snow in upstate NY... so coop building has stalled. Mine are just about ready to head outside with no where to go at the moment. :( I WILL miss hearing their little chirps and peeps when they go - or stop...
