    Separating bonded ducks

I'm having to give up my bonded male-female pair for some family health reasons. They are set to go to a sanctuary in Oregon through another rescue as I couldn't find any local adopters. It's a long story but due to an injury my female sustained so I've had to keep them separated but insight of...

    Ivermectin dose for ducks?

I think I have a duck with either depluming mites or maybe feather lice. I was going to use the Ivomectrin pour on I have in case it is depluming mites. Some of the feathers look like they've been cut which on another post seemed to point to those. I have a kc hen and Pekin drake. Anyone know...

When to repeat ivermectin for mites/dosage for ducks?

Sorry everyone, i know there are a ton of threads on mites/ivermectin but I just can't seem to locate exactly what I'm looking for. I was treating my chickens for possible mites and dosed them last wednesday with the ivomec pour on. Do I need to treat them again? If so when exactly? I've read...

Can I use Ivermectin pour on and do a Permethrin dip?

I thought I might have a mite problem with my girls-saw some tiny bugs in the coop and noticed some vent feathers missing and them pecking stuff off each other. So I sprayed the coop and run and used the Ivermectin pour on because that's what I had on hand. However I haven't seen anything...

Can free ranging cause eggshell problems?

I'm wondering if free ranging can possibly lead to thin and/or soft shell eggs. My small flock of 4 has been having issues with thin eggs/cracked eggs/egg broken internally and while laying. They free range all day with access to layer feed and oyster shell. I've just changed their feed to a...

Internal egg break. Should I flush vent?

I have a hen who has been laying broken eggs for a little while. Cracked at first then yesterday one broke as it was being laid and today I'm pretty sure one broke inside her. The shells did not seem super thin and so I'm pretty sure it broke and wasn't shell-less. There was no membrane in the...

What's going on with my flock? *Updated*

Hi everyone...I'm hoping someone can provide some insight on my little flock of 4. It's kind of a lot of information so hang in there :) Recently one of my girls has started laying eggs that are cracked (not after laying but during or inside) this is one of the worst ones... Some are like this...

    What happened to this egg???

Can anyone tell me what would have caused this amount of cracking? She's laid a few before that had a mild crack or had a ridge but I've never seen this before. Looks like when you over boil one! *I've attached a picture-hopefully it shows up. Not sure if I'm doing it correctly on the new site.

    Found Muscovy's need home-CA

Hi all, Any California Muscovy lovers? I posted over on the free re-homing page but I'm desperate so trying here as well. I found three muscovy's that I think must have been dumped or disliked their old home as they are very people friendly. I had to catch them because they took up residence at...

Found three Muscovy's-they desperately need a home! (CA)

I have three muscovy's in my care who are desperately looking for a good home! We think someone may have dumped them near our house-or perhaps they voluntarily left their former home but they have taken up residence at a neighbors pond across the street from our home. Our neighbor has threatened...

Anyone had a chicken recover from Salpingitis?

Just curious since I see a lot of posts about hens dying...has anyone had a he. Recover from Salpingitis caught early? My vet diagnosed one of my girls with it yesterday. No lash eggs but there was some swelling and pain in her ovary. No swollen abdomen. She is now on baytril. After reading all...

Full 22.7mg baytril tablet per day?

Hi all, I brought my chicken in to see an avian vet (who also owns chickens) yesterday. Symptoms were not laying, and bile in poop, probably not due to her eating anything but really, really tiny crumbs of food and grass. She also had some very strange sloughed off stuff in two of her poops...

    Poop picture-should I be concerned?

[/IMG] I haven't ever seen soooo from any of my girls that looks quite like this. Everyone seems to be doing ok, eating, drinking, free ranging. I have one girl who hasn't laid in awhile but it's winter so I figured that was why. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe someone can tag @cartspony...

Duck driving me crazy spitting out food!

So my precious little KC is driving me crazy with her eating habits. She spits like half of the food out on the floor which has led to a problem with rats as it's hard for me to find it all. My male Pekin takes nice dainty bites-no news at all. Feed is fresh in the morning. Anyone have any idea...

chickens throwing out all but smallest pellets

I have four chickens getting close to a year old now. They had previously been eating pellets just fine though one i had noticed was scraping out pellets with her beak but would normally eat them. Now at least two if not more are scraping out all of the normal sized pellets and picking out the...

Show me your ducks swimming area!

I'm looking to improve upon our smaller duck pen/run and would love to see some of your swimming areas. Ours is currently over rocks but they splash so much it ends up on the dirt floor of the run. Thanks for any pictures anyone would like to share!

    Baking with duck eggs

My KC hen has been laying for a few months now. I am loving the duck eggs and so is my family. I have one into one issue however. Baking. I heard that duck eggs were supposed to be superior to chicken eggs for baking and so was excited to try them. However, everything I've made with the duck egg...

7 Month Old Pekin Drake needs loving home-partner was injured-California (Santa Cruz)

Hi All, My wonderful 7 month old Pekin drake needs a new loving home. His partner was badly injured and can't safely accept his mating. She is a small Khaki Campbell and he is twice her size and young and enthusiastic. Other than that he is a complete gentleman and loves her so it is killing...

    Is this bumblefoot? (Image)

I noticed this yesterday on my Pekin drakes foot. He's not limping and seems fine. But I'm not sure what early bumblefoot looks like. Most pictures I find are of more advanced cases. Could it be just a small scab or cut? Not sure if I should start treatment of some kind.
