Hi i have a Buff Orpington hen who is on the small side and today i noticed she didn't have many feathers on the top of her head and the other hens are pecking at her. she usually stays to herself and isn't outside with the other hens even when we let them free range. What can i do to stop the...
hi i have an Ancona and the breed does have big combs and once she grew up it got bigger and one day it fell over. i wouldn't think anything of it and your roo should get used to it. hopefully someone else will reply and help you more.
I have an ancona and i thinks she's beautiful. they do lay good white eggs and don't go broody too much. The only downside to her is that she doesn't really like to be near people but i didn't get to spend a lot of time with them as chicks. if you handle them a lot when young they should be...
I have a white rock or orpington about a year old and just last night she was on the ground laying on her side breathing heavy and wouldn't move at all even when nudged a little. This morning she got up and isn't moving to much. just standing there near the waterer close to where she was laying...
It really depends. If u let a broody do it then u won't have as much to deal with and it is more natural too. u might be able to leave the chicks with the rest of the flock or seperate them which might even make more work for you. i dont know itis up to u.
It could be the other hens being overcrowded and pecking each other. all of you might have a pecking problem or maybe its molting.
i'm not really sure but hope that helps
well it sounds like you are trying to build a walk in coop with all the seperate pens. mine is on the ground with cinder blocks and as llong as the floor is sturdy rats probably wont get in. hope you get your answer!
I am so excited!!!!! they are coming the 15th of march and can't wait!!
I'm getting:
2 anconas
2 barred rocks
2 buff orpingtons
and 6 rhode island reds.
the funny thing is the 6 rhode island reds are for my neighbors. another neighbor got us started so now we got someone else started!
We...
my rir is one of the nicest hens that i have. i have also heard that BR's are really nice too. but it really depends on how long you have had the birds and if they are used to you. I think what u picked is perfect and hope that your'e missing hen comes up. have fun with your new chicks!
Ok thank you all so much. i think she is doing better now and is getting more active and like her old self again. The buddy idea didn't work because the 2 of them kept obsessing over the wound and pecking at it. now she is alone? Is there anything to stop her pecking at her own wound? I just put...
Well it just sucks cause the chickens went on their property while they were free ranging. it's amazing how quick they get into trouble when u take your eyes off them for a second. How long should i keep her separated? i dont think the wound is too bad but it is hard to tell cause of all of the...
