Our eggs are hatching today! So far we have what looks like to be a black wyandotte and some kind of blue/lavender chick. Can't wait to see what the other eggs hatch out. Thank you again!
I have a rooster who is about 8 months old. He started REALLY crowing about a month ago. For the last week, he has been crowing ALL night though. He is so loud that he is waking us up at night. Our other rooster was a lazy bum and never crowed after he went to bed. Is this something that...
I have a hen who just hatched chicks on the 8th. She is sitting in the nesting box again doing the broody thing. The chicks keep trying to hang out with her but she is in there all day. I have to poke her to get her off the nest. Is it possible that she wants to hatch more?
I have the oddest little colored chick. It looks like a bluish gray with brown chipmunk stripes. I can't figure out who that chick would have come from. Most of my chipmunk chicks are brown.
I'm glad to hear that some go early. This last batch came yesterday which surprised me because I had them marked to be due on the 6th. I thought I was just going crazy.
I found a broody sitting on 2 dozen eggs. I've got chicks coming out of my ears. I've got two other broodies and have already had 3 batches of chicks hatch. Is it winter yet?
The sweet rooster that I always bragged about. The one that is so good to the ladies and has never been aggressive. Yep, that same rooster who is roughly 18 months old decided to take a swipe at me today. Luckily, I saw him hopping behind me so I knew something was up and was able to dodge so...

Camden County. The fires are from the Okefenokee Swamp and the wind is blowing the smoke our way. The smoke is running up and down the east coast.
Thanks everyone. Just waiting on my husband to get home now. Unfortunately, we have too many chickens to take with us and no one to...
I'm sorry if this has been posted but I can't find anything. We live in SE Georgia and are having some heavy wild fires. The smoke has gotten so bad that it is seeping into our house and we need to leave. My chickens are all outside breathing this crap in and I don't know what to do. Does...
I am up to my eyeballs in broody hens. This was definitely not something that we had planned for. The broodies have overtaken the brooding boxes and all of the nesting boxes so the laying hens are having trouble finding a spot to lay. This is what I get for wanting a broody! It is a hormonal...
All of these chicks are two months old. 6 of them were hatched from EE eggs, 2 bought from a feed store that sold them as RIR but I can NOT tell you which ones are which. My roo is red and a red chick is a red chick to me still. Also, please excuse my poor excuse of a camera. Its older than...
Ok I was all excited about having broodies at first because it was our first time, but now I'm quite over it. One of my hens who hatched April 19th has gone broody again. Grrrr.
My broody hatched 6 babies 2 days ago. She finally brought them out into the yard this morning. A storm snuck up on us and the chickens were caught in a down pour. I'm guessing she couldn't make it back to the brooder so she huddled them under a pile of brush. We went out there shortly after...
I have 6 chicks that just hatched. Two of those are from Barred Rock eggs. The roo is an EE. One chick has a white spot on the head and the other is solid black. If the chicks are crossed with EE can the spot still help determine gender? Also, is it possible to determine the layer of the...
Is it possible for a 7 month old pullet to go broody? One of my SLWs is doing the growl, puffing up and continuing to sit in the nesting boxes. Is this even possible?
My roo has started to become a little rough with certain ladies. They have all been together for about 18 months now. Two girls are missing feathers off of their backs. One has a big bare spot in her neck where he grabs them when he mates. These are my two alpha hens so they don't go down...
I have a girl who has been broody for a couple of weeks now. When she comes off the nest its crazy out in the yard. Several other hens (some pullets) start attacking her and she fights with them. We're talking spurring and full out fighting. The girls have never had an issue with her before...
