Wow, you would think Sandhill would of marked them for you Those 3 breeds are going to be hard to tell apart at least until they feather out more. You may end up with "V" marked barnevelders and not be able to know for sure until you breed them together. I would keep the darkest male...

Thanks so much for the input, offers and emotional support.
As it is, we may be moving to the west side of the valley and don't know if we will be able to keep any. It's kind of sudden for us but feel it may be best given the economy and all.
If we can't keep chickens I will sorely...

Obviously this is only a handful of the 20 Wellies. I have 10 "Partridge" Barnies and 20 PR's.
So none pictured are even close...
Yes feel free to use any pictures!!

Ewesheep,
Here are some photos. They are 10 weeks old now. I am very disappointed with the quality. They were healthy but hardly to standard. I wasn't looking for high quality show birds but wanted something better than what I could get at the local farm store. I wish I had found...
OK, I posted this two other places and looking to the Barnie people for any input. If you want to see the other comments (re: Sand Hill etc.) go to the Wellie thread and the Partridge Rock thread.
Thanks so much for your thoughts!
Hey All,
I've got a "Quail Faced" chick Question.
These are...
OK I've got a question for Rock raisers. I posted this in the Wellie thread and most say these are crossbred or at least not to satndard. But I wanted to check with PR folks just to be sure.
Hey All,
I've got a "Quail Faced" chick Question.
These are 6 of 50 I got from Sand Hill. I messed...

We are in the cool part of the country. It was 77 yesterday and we might break 75 today. This, however, is not normal for July. The 90's are very common - but we sent that hot weather east this year. My tomatoes are languishing and the corn is very late.
they have water and shade...
Thanks,
The link didn't work but I got there.
Who doesn't have clover in their field? At least here in the northwest it's as common as dandelions and grass. In fact my last brood of 50 chicks cleaned it up in their run and they are all looking good.
But I will make a thorough scan of the...
Hey All,
I've got a "Quail Faced" chick Question.
These are 6 of 50 I got from Sand Hill. I messed up big time by ordering 20 Welsummers, 20 Partridge Rock and 10 Partridge Barnevelders.
The chicks looked very similar but I think the Wellies were easiest to tell from the others. However...

I went to their website and they don't list the ingredients but the FAQ's mentioned Amprolium so I assume that's what it is.
Thanks for your help!
I've been laid-up due to minor surgery and my son inadvertently bought and fed medicated feed to the boys set for slaughter. They have been on it for 5 days.
How long should I keep them on it and how long after feeding them non-medicated feed can they be butchered?

Those are some great photos!
I got 12 Partridge Barnevelders from Sand Hill 2 1/2 weeks ago. Anyone have these? I'm not sure what they will look like.
I am no expert whatsoever. Perhaps more red is what is needed. I raised my first hatch of my own this spring and added a couple of mixes in the incubator along with Partridge Rocks.
Here's what I got when I put a PR Roo over a Buff Rock:
(Two cockerels and the black one is a PR over a...

I would say 99% chance Maxine there. I have two that were McMurray and one is very friendly. But most PR's I've had are a little skittish.
I just got 20 chicks from Sand Hill, hoping they warm up to us a little better. Also trying to spend time with them a couple of times a day.
