Why not try a bird bath heater. They come in all different sizes and are submersible. They make plenty that are safe for plastic. The downside of them is you have to make sure to keep plenty of water in the bucket.

Ohh thats horrible. I wish I had answers but one of my pekin drakes died suddenly this morning. He was in the pen with the other drake and hen. My only guess at this point is that spring is coming and he was viewed as competition.

Its very easy to get off your skin. Rubbing Alcohol works wonders on things like that and sharpie. Many years of taking the X off my underage hand at bars. Lotion works just as well too.

you can use a sponge as long as its new. There should be no real grown of bacteria in your bator unless its contaminated somehow. You can always try paper towels too if you want. I just use a sponge because its easier and holds moister longer.
