We have all, I am sure, heard that joke involving a chicken who crosses the road. I recently found this picture that seems to give us a logical and modern reason for why that chicken had to cross. If you have found any other "explanations" (whether a photo or just a reply to the joke) then let...
This is my first time ever raising ducklings, since I have normally been a chicken person. I recently had to say goodbye to all my chickens though due to family problems and a big move. Now I have finally purchased my first two ducklings and I am curious as to what all I should know in raising...
So, I know many people may not recognize me anymore. I was here for the longest time not only updating folks on our rescued Henny Penny, but also trying to get people to help us in the Pepsi Refresh Contest to try and win a $5,000 grant to build a bigger chicken rescue.
Unfortunately, I fell...
I am interested in beginning a small project of raising rabbits for meat/fur in the area. I have noticed that it seems no one around here is into raising this beneficial food product, and am looking to gain more information before I try this out. I want to start with one male and two females as...
Our sweet little lady, a rescue by the name of Henny Penny, gave us the wonderful gift of her first egg on Monday. After three months of recovery, she finally showed us she is better with this WONDERFUL sign.
I want to preserve the shell, does anyone have instructions as to how I may go about...
Fellow chicken lovers, I invite you to show a picture of yourself and one or more of your beloved, feathered companions. Show us the bond you have with your chickens. We often get to share photos of JUST our chickens, and brag about their beauty, but let's take this moment to show eachother the...
After taking in our beloved rescue, Henny Penny in early July, we have not had a single egg until today. While at the shelter for the first few days of observation, there was one semi-soft-shelled egg, but it was a one time deal.
Then I got the call this evening that my aunt had taken one of...
For all of those that have so amazingly kept up with the story of our rescued hen, H.P. has gone almost three months since her attack and is looking tons better.
This sweet girl went from being a half-featherless and blood covered mess to the beauty she is today. As of Tuesday, when I last...
BYC member GoatWalker (Kate), as some of the regulars on here may remember, was very active until she left for U.S. Marine boot camp in June. I just wanted to let those who have stayed updated on her status know that she should be home on Sunday.
Phew.
I am unable to make it to her graduation...
After this two month battle, our rescued girl who was attacked by a dog two months ago has pulled through and is finally starting to transition to the great outdoors.

Here is her page we keep pretty updated. Check out the Day 1 pictures first, then go to the...
I am doing a presentation tomorrow about chickens and we have had chickens with green, yellowish, and even an orange/copper look to their eyes.
So I am curious, what color eyes do yours have? If you have any closeup pictures it'd be helpful too.
Okay I have a newer picture and putting up the old one but PLEASE help me. I am new to the breed and having difficulty trying to determine the gender. In the first posting of the picture I got many saying Dom pullet. Trying to be reassured here...on our new rescue... =/
After a good while of debating on her new name, Pretty Girl has been welcomed into our family and will make her journey to our family farm tomorrow morning early, where she will be a new girlfriend for Pickles!
Not a good picture but I will add some more tomorrow evening on here.
Let me know...
I know, I know, I've already posted about Henny Penny earlier but I now must inform her followers and anyone else interested that we will be taking another in soon.
Tomorrow afternoon I am going to pick up a chicken I heard about this morning. My friend from work called me at about 10:00 and...
Going to try and do this once a week with funny pictures of our sweet flock. I love seeing other posts doing this and wanted to try myself. Not so much a contest, just to have fun!
So Let's see what kind of funny captions you can generate for this photo of young Pickles eating grass:
Thinking it's a Barred Rock hen but what is your opinion? A few months old and if it's a girl I get to pick her up tomorrow afternoon and Pickles will have himself a new girlfriend
Here are quite a few pictures from HP's second outside adventure so far. We are still positive that she may have an egg broken inside of her that refuses to dissolve, and she threw up water once while outside, but she was out doing her best to enjoy the sun. She was scratching through the dirt...
So recently I have decided to take my love (addiction ) of chickens another step farther and decided to change my bathroom around without any repainting in order to make it all chicken-themed. I now have hand towels, a little mat, and washclothes as my first step, next being getting some good...
