x2, yeah, now that I look again the pic is a little blurry, at first glace it looked like a pea comb. You will have an critically endangered hen if it's a Buckeye. Try to get her mated to another Buckeye if you can have roosters!
Your dark burgandy hen with the black tail feathers looks like a Buckeye(not RIR or NH! I have a buckeye and that's what she looks like, she's getting darker as she gets older. She should be a mahogany color eventually.
Good day! I am a long time reader/lurker and this thread is an excellent learning opportunity. I do have some questions as I would like to try and implement some of your predator proofing at the farm I am doing an intership at. First, do you collect any of your eggs from the jungle fowl for...

Maybe if some scrap or repurposed materials were used it would be less:)! It's just so rare to see detailed coop plans for free anywhere, I had to post it. I figured if someone only has 2-3 birds this would be a good option.
Includeds diagram, instructions and a list of materials!

I have figured many ways to utilize solar energy, shed light etc. My only question is whether there is a solar water heater for the chickens water supply? I plan on using a rain barrel style PVC nipple system and I would think that the water in the pvc pipe would freeze pretty...
Hello all!
Can anyone point to or post a picture of a gutter/rainbarrel system you've set up! I have been going a search, but am not finding alot of info/pics.
Thank you!

Welcome! We live in westpark where chicken are legan and we have a license. Our friends live in Lakewood, and they are so angy that they can't have chickens. Just keep in mind when a neighbor complains and report you you may need to get rid of the birds. It a reality...
I am getting ready to submit an exemption in my city to keep chickens. My questions are how long does it usually take to change an ordinance? Do I need to use legal wording and verbage when I submit the paperwork? Has anyone here fought their city succesfully? So far there are 16 pro chicken...
Tootie, I am also from Ohio but live on a wooded 9 acre mini farm in SC now. I want a couple of Buckeyes for myself as it would be cool to have chickens named Buckeyes. I'd have to name the rooser Brutus :-) Hope you get your chicken waiver!
That's a good name for a Chicken! I think I'll name...

I would just get them anyway, but Lakewood is notoriously vigilant! The city is always on my street for some reason (maybe since a lot of houses are being bought and rehabbed). And, It's considered a misdemeaner to own "dangerous" animals and listed after bears, lions and...
Thanks All! Everyone has been really great, I am in the process of joining a group that is fighting for the ordinance to allow backyard chickens in Lakewood. I most likely would not have found that group without help from a BYC member.
I am already super happy I joined up! I don't know how long...
