Perfect. Was a little worried for a while that the girls would be boys, but they're quacking away now!
Lots of bizarre turns of events in my life... oh, the irony. But it's good.
I have to share my peeps with everyone!
Two day old babies (fawn & white runners) from eggs taken from broody...
Marty!!! Missed you!
And x2 on all your advice!
Kevin!!!!
Nice to see everyone's still popping in from time to time. I have ducklings. I should get photos tonight. Breaking the rules by not having pics in the first 24 hours...
Aww! Congrats! The ones I hatched from your eggs are almost...
I'll be okay. Got several angles I'm working trying to find a job for the offseason.
Such sweet babies!
How adorable. It's always hard to choose which ones to keep. I always ending up keeping more than planned.
In other news, I went up to the farm to help out on an all day project today...
Yes, they will.
I'm thrilled to get anything from these eggs. It was a gamble taking broody eggs of unknown age.
I had no idea what I was getting with those eggs. I expected the whole batch to fail after taking them from the broodies and driving home with them directly under the car heater to...
I don't know if I mentioned it here or not, but I ended up bringing some eggs home because my boss wanted all the broodies broken because there was a coyote lurking about.
I've had:
2 leakers
1 exploder
and 4 babies working on internally pipping!
Not to mention 2 or 3 that are still in early...
Final-Final hatch of the year is on lockdown. I turned off the big incy and have the eggs in one of the tabletops to watch the hatch. I think I'm more than ready to let this be my last hatch for a while.'
How's everyone doing?
My incubator is on again too. A neighbor read my lament on FB about feeling like I had unfinished hatching business and brought me two dozen duck eggs. So nice to have awesome friends.
Sad to report that the incubators in our house are now off. I feel like my mission for the year is incomplete, but the last batch of eggs I set were infertile and the two prior hatches weren't good, so it's time to cut my losses I guess.
She looks like a chunky fawn & white runner duck with a mallard eye stripe and bad posture.
The babies could be anything. I think the blue swede is the big horndog of the bunch. They're farm ducks, so we don't worry so much about breed.
Well, it was unintentional, but it worked like a charm...
I got bitten by a broody duck today. Not snapped at, not pecked at. Bitten.
I found her in a pile of brush on her nest in the field at work. She was panting, so I got her a bowl of water and took it to her. I was trying to slowly offer her the water when she struck. Bit my hand and would not...
Thanks for the hugs! I've gotten so used to everything being fine in the morning that it was a pretty bad shock finding my little boy like that. He was just getting to be breeding age.
