BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

Interested in theories regarding how to go about this. Since they all came from very few birds, just crossing different breeder's birds wouldn't seem to do it. We had good luck with vigor in our first line birds, but others clearly have had other experiences and some serious issues...

I have some young cockerels growing out this same way. The less-developed comb in my growout pen is definitely male, but I've always had to give him a second look when sorting and watching how they are growing. Maybe these boys are the "cold weather version" for frostbite-prone areas?

I'll agree on the Isbars but every Welsummer I've ever had (at the time I was just getting hatchery birds) have been stone-cold BITCHES. Bullies, every one, and pecked at me as well.

Isbars don't seem to ship well in general. I makes it difficult to get started, I know. We had 0% hatches from several shipments of Isbar eggs in the beginning, but the birds we have from those are strong and healthy.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/618634864915903/ We all have our opinions. For us, we are looking at a medium sized, lighter build bird (layer type as opposed to dual-purpose build) with moderate tail angle, balance, production type. Preference here is for dark eye, willow color on shanks (no...

Our Marans don't fly much either. Too heavy.

You may have to put net on the tops of your pens to keep them where they belong. Isbar X cuckoo Marans would be a sexlinked olive egger, Isbar X legbar sexlinked at least. Of course you don't have to incubate any of them...

Wow. That's not my experience at all.

We had a buyer change their mind, so here is the ad: 12 rare Blue ISBAR Hatching Eggs $45 available to ship Monday. Our Isbars lay minty green to light sage green, some with speckles. Chicks can be blue, black and/or splash. Isbars are medium size prolific layers of large green eggs and are...

They can be a little sneaky like that, waffling in and out of cockerel-ness. I'm only breeding the ones that are OBVIOUS early on!

POL is so variable due to genetics, nutrition, daylight hours, time of year they were hatched, weather...my first Marans were 8-9 months, but our homebred Marans start anywhere from 16-23 weeks. I was going nuts waiting for my Isbars but that first gorgeous green egg was worth it!

Our Isbar chicks "look like bantams" next to our monster Marans chicks, but I think they ought to! Isbars are not a heavy or dual-purpose breed, and in general the type for a strictly egg producing breed is much lighter than the heavies/DP. My Isbars lay like champs (daily) and are not frail...

I just saw a photo of a "blue" Isbar from GFF's "new" line. It looks like a cross between a blue copper Marans and an Isbar. Dual-purpose body type, dark charcoal legs. The owner says she also has some that have pea combs. These crosses are going to cause a lot of trouble in the future IMO...

My understanding is that it was only the autosexing that was unfinished. Some people are reintroducing the legbars for this but that adds a whole other level of genetic material that I'm not sure is the best road, but I don't know that much.

I wouldn't necessarily say that GFF has pure lines. They sure messed up the Rhodebar genetics crossing in production reds. We are very careful only to hatch chicks from green eggs and it seems to keep the egg color good. I have seen Isbar eggs on auction sites that weren't green at all. I'm...

Little splash just getting some splashy feathers. Feels great to finally be hatching some Isbars of my own, after the long bunch of trouble getting any at all! We have some blues and blacks too.

How many eggs are you wanting? We are just test hatching now but getting a good % of blacks from the blue to blue pair.

I have black copper and blue copper Marans, a recessive white Marans pullet, and a splash copper pullet in with a splash Isbar cockerel. I don't know what the recessive white will produce with the splash, but she came from BCM stock. There will be a lot of blue and splash SC OE for sure.

Just doing test hatches on our Isbars now. We got our first black chicks last week along with a couple blues. This week there are splashes so far. We are just getting our first single comb Olive Egger eggs, splash Isbar over Marans pullets. We'll be test hatching those a bit later. I got...

Splash to splash will only get you more splash. My understanding if you keep doing that is the quality of the splashes will "wash out." Black X Splash = 100% blue.
