    Growing fodder for chickens

You are so welcome. And you are correct. Bottom line is they have to have the correct amount of protein. Chickens also eat meat. I'd not assume that they are getting everything they need with the fodder. No matter what anybody says. lol People need to do a lot of research and trail...

    Growing fodder for chickens

Great number. I have 8 hens and 7 pullets and Nada. Of course I don't have sex links. I sold my 6 Golden Comets a few months ago because, hey, I have all these hens laying and new pullets going to start soon. Starting back with my Comets and will never be without them again.

    Growing fodder for chickens

I'm late on this, but the chickens seem to love the sprouts better than fodder. Kassaundra sprouts in a sock and then turns it out and hangs on a stick.

    Growing fodder for chickens

Great to have you. Start on page one and read a few pages. It gives some good info. Different people do it differently. Kassaundra sprouts hers 4 days in pillow cases and such. Others use landscaping trays with holes. Or dishpans with holes in sides and bottom. Chickens like sprouts...

    Growing fodder for chickens

Hey Andy It shouldn't change a thing, maybe even taste better. It's just grains that are sprouted. Don't invest a lot of money yet, just start small with a couple of dishpans with holes in sides and bottom. It will let you know if you like it and want to continue. Good luck. Read up...

    Growing fodder for chickens

Okay, I made the first experiment with a cloth tote bag. It still worked good but for some reason I thought that you had to pour water inside the bag daily. That's not right? I still have the 5 gallon paint strainer bags. I think I'll try them next. Dawn in soak water. How long do you soak?

Good news. Wheat is not a GMO. Here's a site that lists all of them. http://www.livestrong.com/article/201787-what-grains-are-not-gmo/

    Growing fodder for chickens

Chickens don't care a whole lot about long fodder. They LOVE 4 day sprouts. Still have a ton of nutrients and I just use it as scratch. Throw out a few handfuls a day in the morning along with the fermented feed I give in the evening.

    Growing fodder for chickens

Great post!!!!! I'm liking the idea of sprouting to about 4 days for my chickens. They love, love it. I only sprouted a small batch the first time and boy did I learn a lesson. More, more. I'm on day 2 of a big batch.

Make sure it's not treated for planting. You can't use it otherwise. That's all I can get at my feed store so I buy the Emergency food buckets of it from Walmarts http://www.walmart.com/ip/Augason-Farms-Emergency-Food-Hard-White-Wheat-26-lb/22001478 Shipping is free with $50 so I just...

    Growing fodder for chickens

Love watching your video. I bought 25 lbs of wheat that I'm going to do like this. I bought paint strainer bags. (5 gallon) We'll see if it works as well. If not I'm gonna go to goodwill and buy some pillow cases.

    Growing fodder for chickens

Great to have you. Start looking around the different threads. There's a great amount of info out there. I plan to grow mine the short time and feed at 4 days. It's more of a grain ration than fodder but you get a lot of extra nutrients. Also I ferment my feed and that's wonderful...

    Growing fodder for chickens

You can do both. I ferment 1 scoops of gamebird feed, 2 scoops of layer feed and 1 scoop cracked corn. Usually if I don't have gamebird I just use layer feed or grower and about 1/2 scoop BOSS to the cracked corn. What I have on hand. The chickens seem to prefer the 4 day sprouts and I have...

    Growing fodder for chickens

Don P. This is an incredibly important post. The lack of nutrients in the soil is something nobody is talking about. Other than adding azomite or rock dust what can people do for their gardens? Cover crops or manure crops?

    Growing fodder for chickens

Hi Elizabethan, Yeah, I'm in Louisiana and can't get it either. Google Azomite minerals. Look into fermented feeds. It's best of everything.

    Growing fodder for chickens

Very good advice Don P, I ferment my feed and grains and also add azomite. A good variety is best. Sprouted , fodder, fermented. All good.
