    Kiki's found horse eggs—experiment Round 2

:eek:Had ducks begin hatching early! I went out to move eggs into lock down and found two duckling on the floor of the cabinet incubator. Six more are externally pipped and one is zipped...all in their cups of the incubator tray. These eggs were supposed to hatch beginning the 17th. Since...

Baby Iris has some new feathers coming in on the neck. If they are pointed tips, then it is a cockerel. The bulk of the feathering suggests a pullet. And there are no wattles showing...also a pullet trait. Let's give it a few weeks. Most cockerels don't crow until 5 months.

About 3 to 4 weeks would be better.

    Kiki's found horse eggs—experiment Round 2

Round tips on feathers at the neck, back and top row on wings would indicate pullet. Pointed feathers in those same places would indicate a cockerel. Comb color can be iffy depending on the breed. Little cockerels should begin swelling on their ankles for their spurs about 4 weeks...it feels...

I purchase Oxine and use it 10%. Also use Gold Listerine at 15%. Both are antifungal, antibacterial and antivirus. Hard to track air sac in a grape sized quail egg that has a blue internal shell covered in a brown camoflaged coloring. Been there...done that. :thFinally caught up Moved 25...

If the cracked egg seems have more fluid moving easily in the shell when you gently roll it, then the internal membrane is either softened or split. The egg could be old or has been treated roughly by the turkeys....most likely it is not viable. The smaller egg with the smaller air bubble could...

Spraddle leg means legs extend out to the sides when walking rather than under the weight of the body. Easy fix in about two days. Use a six inch piece of yarn. Have someone hold the duckling while you tie a hobble. You want to make knots that will not cinch up on the legs causing a...

No egg business and I keep most but do sell a few. Columbian Wyandotte is a heritage breed with few registered breeders. To be able to select the very best for breeding to the Standard we must hatch large numbers of chicks. I "cull" at different stages and ages. Obvious flaws are put in a...

Have you tried Jobst medical compression socks? They have knee length and thigh highs in several styles and compression mmhg levels for both women and men. A little pricey but work well. These were recommended by Hubby's heart doctor. Hubby had vein surgery in his left leg and periodically...

There are four hens mixing eggs....the three in one corner and the one by herself. It is funny watching one steal an egg. She will go to the nest area when a hen gets up to eat, exercise et cetera. She quickly surveys the eggs, makes her selection and pulls it out of the nest and tucks it...

I have a large batch in lockdown due to begin hatching tonight. There were 4 Cochin babies to hatch in their outdoor pen just before this last rain. I snatched them up and put them with the last incubator hatch. Here is why: Three Cochin hens are brooding together on the floor in one corner of...

Somewhat like police /detective humor Praying for a speedy recovery in the process. Leave them with the hen for a couple of days...unless she tries calling them back into the nest to roost and they get separated from her. Then you will have to cage her and the chicks thru the bonding...

Oh this is not the only big hatch! I try to hatch 200 each year. The variety is Columbian Wyandotte and Columbian is one of the harder color varieties to keep to the standard.
