Hi! I'm actually doing quite well, don't think I'm big enough yet to be miserable.:) I've always preferred being hot though.
The hen is actually normal, a little feather pooped out of that spot so I wonder if the white thing under the skin are feather shafts that aren't pointed straight..??
I...
Thanks for your reply, I'll try Facebook. She is a year old. It feels hard, at first I thought it was a worm but it has something sticking out of it (which I'm starting to think might be a feather popping out). The area isn't swollen or painful. My other girls all got dunked yesterday too but...
I posted this in the emergency thread but no responses so I thought I'd check here. I had a hen with a poopy butt so I thought I'd wash her today since it was so hot anyway. This is what I found under her vent. Most of the feathers were trimmed back in the winter so it's pretty easy to see...
Pulled an egg out of the box today and it was bloody. Everyone is acting normal and I know who laid this one, she's a year old EE. I searched on here and people said occasionally a blood vessel will break and its normal. Anyone have this happen?
Need to mention I started corid, today is day...
Just thought I'd share :) last year when these ladies were chicks, Apollo (the dog) would run and hide when I brought them out. I think the chirping bothered him, thankfully he's gotten over it!
Welcome new members!! I'm on my phone so I can't get that cute little dancing guy with the sign! :)
I'm from the western burbs of Chicago and have a small flock of 6, but the little roo will be leaving as soon as his girlfriend integrates with the older girls (they are only about 8 weeks)...
I posted this on the Indiana thread too. My 6 week old black bantam cochins have started to crow so I have no doubt they are roos! 1 frizzle, 1 smooth coat. I can't keep them so if you're interested, PM me:)
My bantam cochin's from @ellymayRans are getting so big!! Pretty sure they are all roos :/ but I'm holding our hope on one! The boys will need a new home in a few weeks if anyone is interested.:) 2 frizzle, 2 smooth.
Welcome Back! I'm in Westmont :) I have 3-year old girls and 4 chicks that are less than a week old. Only allowed 6 too but I figure at least one of these chicks is a roo that I can't keep.
Yes, Brookfield zoo has a few males and a lot of females (last summer I think I counted 10-12) not sure if they rehomed them or not. Only saw the one girl today. They let them wander, not sure where they go at night or in the winter. There are signs that say take pictures not feathers :rant...
I use sand in my run and under my roosting bar. It is so easy to clean, I can't imagine ever changing. I ordered a ton of the construction grade stuff and still have a garbage can full so I was thinking of putting that in the brooder for easy clean up. Just wanted to make sure it's safe for the...
I am so excited that I have to share with people who get it! It's been arranged! I'm getting my bantam frizzle cochin chicks from ellymayrans (not sure she comes to this thread, she's on the Indiana one) in April! We are going to Indy for a communion and she's down that way so I'm going to get...
