Some of my July Serama are laying. The EExOrp cross is laying. The Barnevelder is ready but isn’t.
Some of our early August hatch is laying. I believe the Marans is, and one other that I haven’t been able to figure out yet. 10 pullets and 5 cockerels in that hatch.
That is awesome! But, I guess it also disproves the theory of hatching more females with cooler temps. I'm hoping ours is a pullet, but I'm not holding my breath. Our 2 Polish, and NN, have all started crowing over the past few weeks. At least one of my 7 week old silkies is most assuredly also...
BTW I still don't know if it's male/female, or what the mixes are. It was a green egg, so an Easter Egger and??? My guesses are EE x BO or EE x BLW. I'm probably totally off!
Roadside is the sweetest chick. She/he is 3 weeks old, and obviously, much bigger than the Seramas in the brooder. But...
No, they weren't our eggs. We didn't have any of our own laying at the time. We knew of a house near the Post Office that sometimes put eggs out for sale in a cooler, and they usually have a mix of colors.
Out of the 4 eggs, 2 were fertilized/developed. 1 did awesome until lockdown and then...
While making breakfast one morning, I noticed that the eggs in the pan looked fertile. I thought—:yesss:, I can hatch these! LOL So, I took 4 of the green eggs from the fridge and put them into the incubator the next day. 20 days later...
It’s hard, I’m sorry. I haven’t had much luck if needing to go far to find the beak. Sometimes there is only so much you can do.
Do you have any left to hatch still?
It doesn’t look like that much blood. I can’t tell by the pic where the beak is either, but it seems to be getting air. You might just leave it be to absorb yolk and rest, see if it’s still alive in the morning. I know it’s frustrating, I’m sorry. Hope the little cutie makes it.
@CluckNDoodle your numbers are better than mine!

@CluckNDoodle The Isbar in our last hatch was splayed. I didn’t have any luck with the leg banding. I had better luck with the cup method... https://104homestead.com/fixing-spraddle-leg-drinking-glass/
I also did very gentle leg stretches. I adjusted how I held it as well— instead of letting it...
Omg I’ve missed a lot! Hope everyone's hatches are going well.
After the Seramas that hatched on the 7th, I still had 5 other eggs incubating. My hatch was yesterday. The stats..
5 out of 12 shipped eggs lockdown
2 DIS (Isabel Orps )
3 hatched and healthy
Out of this hatch we got 2 double...
So cute! I just love the sweet Silkie broodies. Lately, a surprising number of my extra chicks have gone to people getting them for their broodies who want to be mommies.
I find electrolytes can cause pasty butt. It’s no fun. Last bunch of Silkies I hatched, I felt like I was potty training an entire kindergarten class, always wiping and checking rears lol.
I’m glad your new chicks are doing well! I haven’t dealt with getting chicks shipped to me yet. What...
LOL! They are a lot of fun to watch. There are not Weeble Wobbles, they definitely fall down lol.
Today everything worked out for the best, and I’m grateful. Nutri-drench is my new go to at hatch. Lately, I am finding that chicks rebound quicker than with Sav-a-chick electrolytes.
I think...
Whew! Long day. Our final tally:
9 shipped Serama eggs from eBay
7 developed and made it to lockdown
1 dis
6 hatched and are still alive and kicking
Lots of black and yellow chicks and a grey/silver, I think. Hard to tell just yet. They are a little bigger than the ones I hatched earlier this...
The second chick is here!
There is another egg that pipped around 3am. That’s the egg I’m concerned about since opening the incubator. On the camera it looks like it might be zipping, so I’ll go up to check on it.
If anyone is bored and wants to watch them stumbling around lol.. I have a...
Yes, he was positioned badly in the shell. He couldn’t lift his head once out, but he did try to move. He got exhausted quickly. I let him rest for quite a while, but eventually, he quit trying to move. So, I started giving him nutri-drench water via dropper.
The big mistake I made is leaving...
Well, things aren’t off to a good start here. 6 or 7 hours after pipping externally, the egg looked like it zipped internally, but not through the exterior shell. The chick sounded distressed and had quit. Despite swearing off helping...
Long story short... it seems to have been ready to hatch...
