    Silkie thread!

On the day the first chick is supposed to hatch, provide food and water right next to your broody. That way she will continue hatching and be able to show the first were the food is. It is what I just did with mine as she laid 2 extra eggs that I did not place under her. Only one did not hatch...

I have a working theory going on Silkies. The boys tend to have a defined straight line from the start of their tail poof. The girls tend to arch up toward their mid back when looking directly over them. I have been 100% accurate with birds 4mo and older.

But I set 11 eggs tonight. 4 Buff Silkie, 5 (hopefully)Blue Silkie and 2 layer eggs. My little Blue girl is a laying machine. Has only taken one day off since...

    Silkie thread!

Hey y'all. So I had three Silkie eggs under a broody Silkie. She decided after 13 days she was done sitting. So I of course wanted to see if she would go back into a broody state. She had abandoned the nest for about 6 hrs when I discovered she was done. Sought the advice of a trusted friend and...

This method is 50% accurate. You have same odd as if you just guessed. It is an old wives tale. The only 100% accurate way to sex them is crow/egg, otherwise it is a guess, sometimes with lots of experience you can more accurately guess at 4-6mo. I am training myself at vent sexing 1 mo LF...

I always inspect chicks the day after hatch by broody, just in case. The toe issue is rare with broodies, but it does happen.

I had to bandaid boot the Silkie chick. Middle toe was curled a little bit. Should correct in a day or two.
