Sorry for being so AWOL on this thread! I have had a couple of early hatchers (they hatched on Wednesday/Thursday!), pic attached :). Three hatched out of the 8 eggs I set - not what I was hoping for, but I'm still so happy with the ones that did hatch.
Two are pictured here, plus my dog photo...
Me trying to figure out how to cram more chicken eggs in the bator for this:
I already have duck eggs going that will hatch in time...but FOMO wants me to set some chicken eggs too 😂
I haven't noticed an unbearable electric or plasticky smell from my Brinsea. There's a hint of it, but I have to really sniff to notice it lol. The Janoel was worse when I turned it on for the first time, but I dont notice it anymore.
My husband, who was never really that interested in raising meat birds, is very suddenly asking me tons of questions about it 😂. Glad he's finally on board! It only took a pandemic to get there, but I guess it be like that sometimes.
I was lucky enough to receive my Brinsea mini ii advance from a dear friend as a gift ❤ I've seen people use the incuview with good results on BYC! I wan the nurture right more, though, because I can get it at TSC and that way I dont have to wait for shipping lol.
Part of me feels like it would have been fine to wait until the 14th, but I just felt better putting them in 24 hrs after I received them and before they were 7 days old. Maybe on later hatches I'll experiment a bit more with that timing.
I got them from Fat Hen Farms in Connecticut. I believe he is on FB and Instagram. Fast response and shipping, and they were packaged well 😊 I'm not going to candle them until D10 because I'm afraid to over handle them. There are some wonky air cells despite the nice packaging.
I couldn't wait any longer to set more eggs, so mine wont hatch until 3/31 :barnie curse this addiction!
If I can sell enough chicks to pay for the nurture right 360 my husband might not mind so much if I buy it 🤔🤫
If I take the turner out I'll probably have room for about 8 more. I have to be careful though because I have shipped eggs coming sometime in April. Maybe I'll have to buy a 3rd bator after all 😂
I set 8 cayuga eggs on the 13th - they were shipped too so I didn't want to make them wait longer. I was getting close to them being 7 days old and the air cells are wonky.
If they dont count, I'll stagger some chicken eggs in my already too full second bator on the 21st 😂.
I will be setting cayuga duck eggs! I would prefer to set them tomorrow (13th) rather than the 14th, would they still count or do you want me to wait until the 14th?
