Ok, that's what I had read also, that the smooths "didn't carry the gene" but it stands to reason that it is a mutation and it could pop up anywhere and would be more likely if there were a curly feather in their lineage. These guys are all only 6-8 days old so it's still hard to tell.
By the...
I thought I knew the answer to this question but now I don't know. If you have a smooth chick that came from a frizzle hen do they carry the frizzle gene? The reason I'm asking is because I currently have a smooth rooster over three smooth hens that are laying and hatched chicks that look like...
Somebody else will have to chime in on that. I'm not a good judge of what is or isn't. I thought we took a calico to the fair and the judge said she was a MF.
For those of you using these small tractors or breeding pens do you leave the birds in them at night? Do you have some kind of building attached to protect the birds? I made a couple of 4x12 tractors but I haven't figured out how to give some protection at night.
These guys are still young but I thought I would share some pics I took yesterday. They are 10 wks. old.
Any idea what color she would be?
There are two pics of the same rooster. Trying to show his little bit of dark tail feathers.
My two dark hens. One is not as dark at the...
I didn't realize that the Mille Fleur color wasn't recognized. I knew the calico wasn't. The judge was really young and I'm not so sure he knew what he was doing. I'm sure he did his best but I have found a few other things that he commented on that I went and double checked and it doesn't...
She didn't really understand what was going on at the time, I had to go get her from the rabbits and explain it! lol Silly kids, I asked her if I get to keep the purple ribbon for buying the birds and building the coop and feeding and watering and she said no. lol She does her chores and we...
Just wanted to show off some of my frizzled baby's. These were all hatched at the same time but there are big differences between them. I know almost nothing about the frizzles so throw out the critiques and advice. Thanks
The bottom picture has 5 chicks in it, it's hard to see where one...
I posted this in another cochin thread but no one had responded so thought I would post here also.
I have five young frizzled bantam cochins that I want to introduce to my older bantam cochin pen. The chicks are three weeks old, the older ones are between five and six weeks old. I find the...
I have brand new baby frizzle banty cochins. How long realistically before I can tell if they are frizzled or not? They are so tiny next to the standard chicks I hatched out!
I know you don't want to breed two frizzles together but is it ok to breed a smooth frizzle x to a frizzle? Would that up the odds to get frizzle chicks? I'm not even sure that makes sense the way I put it.
