We have five hens that made it to egg laying age from Greenfire as well as a couple roosters. One hen does look a little different but not especially noticable. We are getting one green egg which I assume is coming from that hen and that egg will never be hatched. Haven't taken the...
We also bought Rhodebars from Greenfire. I have been reading the posts about green eggs and waiting to see what we got. We have two roosters and a half dozen hens. All are now laying and someone IS laying a green egg, while all others are the correct RIR brown egg. We have decided we will...
The main reason I purchased the Rhodebars is for the auto sexing! We will improve the color by culling. If we manage to obtain some good heritage RIR then we may attempt the back croos to improve color but the auto sexing is paramount to the Rhodebar.
Well we had 5 RB roosters the one matured before the others, he was biggest and darkest color. There was no signs of fighting at all, everyone seemed to get along. Then one day we found a dead roo. The next day two more dead roosters and we still had not seen any fighting. On the third day a...
We have Green Fire Rhodebars. We have not started any breeding this time of year and they are in a grow out pen with other breeds. They have just startedlaying but not certain, if so then the egg is light brown. Here are a few of our birds.
This is our second rooster. I think I liks...
Yes thank you, I am aware we will have to breed back to the Rhodebar. Our Rhodebar from GF show considerable variance in coloration both on the hens and roosters. We want to use heritage RIR to shift the RB to the really DARK RED base color of the those birds and maybe increase size a little...
We also have Greenfire Rhodebars. While they may have just started laying I am not certain because they currently reside in a mixed pen. We do have EE hens in there as well. I think the new smaller eggs are from the Rhodebar and they are light tan/cream. However we don't know with certainity...
We had four in a pen growing up as well. There did not seem to be any issues as they grew up and we were watching to see which we would use. But one day we found a dead rooster. Couldn't discern a cause for his demise. Certainly did not suspect another rooster as we had not seen any...
Nicalandia,
Thanks for the reply I will get some pics but it will likely be the weekend. Yes I want these to be auto sexing. So, your saying that if I breed the RIR hen to the Rhodebar rooster, those chicks won't be sexable? I must then breed the F1 to F1 to get the sex link back? How...
We have Rhodebars from Greenfire. None are laying yet and we had to take the dominate rooster out of the pen. He actually killed two other roosters in the course of three days. Then we found a dead hen, she was too young for his amorous advances. So he was removed to a bachelor pad. Once...
Greenfire has been excellant with all our transactions and we have had several. Did they send you extra chicks because they often do send additional chicks to round out the box. That's how they got us started with Breda, LOL.
We have Rhodebars from the Greenfire line ...... is this the wrong thread for that conversation? We had 4 roosters in with 10 or so hens and they were nearing maturity. The biggest and fortunately the prettiest rooster has killed the other three in two days. Has anyone else seen this level of...
