Is it normal for young JG roosters (5 months old) to crow SO DANG MUCH??
We are looking to rehome ours as he just won't quit crowing all day long, for nothing, at no-one, even goes to 11pm at night waking the neighborhood.
He's really laid-back and not neurotic or anything - why all the...

I don't know... you can bring them into the country via land (go pick them up yourself across the border and DO NOT declare as hatching eggs, just regular store-bought eggs) but you can't mail them.
and it's complicated, have a look...

thank you! he's just a pet though, not breeding quality... but we love him just the same
also it is illegal to ship eggs over the border, can you imagine?
such a drag, specially for us canucks up here who have limited stock to choose from
So here is an update on Moose, he's 3.5 months old now and growing slowly but steadily.
He's very gentle and sweet, and although he's the biggest bird in the pen (he dwarfs my two silkie roos, LOL) he knows he's at the bottom of the pecking order.
I hope the status quo holds
Oh, and he LOVES...
OK please don't hurt me if this has been asked a zillion times before, i don't have the willpower to read through 200+ pages of posts!
if you cross-breed a JG roo to a regular sized hen (orpington, cochin, rock, production, etc) - will the resulting offspring normally inherit part of the JG...
Does an early-crowing (as in, not yet 8 weeks old) cockerel mean he has more testosterone than normal?
Does this indicate a possible aggressive roo in the future, or one that is dominant?
I've never had a roo crow at such a young age... and I really want to keep Moose, but if he crows too much...
oh my gosh - I just walked into the barn and heard this... Ford Model T horn on a low battery croaking kind of noise...
i approached the babies' pen...
waited a few seconds...
and there came that noise again, from a confused-looking Moose
he's not even 8 weeks yet!
he "crowed" a couple...

Will do!
Right now he is at the bottom of the pack - he currently lives with 6 pullets and 5 roos, 3 of which are being re-homed shortly so we'll see how the dynamic changes after that.
They are all the same age and even if Moose is the biggest by far, he gets bossed around by the...
Moose just turned 7 weeks old and is the SWEETEST, most gentle blue-eyed monster ever
I rarely fall in love with roos when they're this young, but this big boy... oh wow
Hope you don't mind that I share his "growing up pics" with you!!
Your Jersey Girl is gorgeous!
So happy to find out the breed's temperament is so docile and lovely...
I hope my roo turns out as sweet as I think he's going to be!
I don't know if my JG, Moose, is normal - he's almost 7 weeks old now? and spends way too much time sleeping or lazing around... and his crop's always empty, while the other chicks are eating like crazy. My same-age faverolle roos are half his size and weigh more. Is something wrong with him? He...

Oh, that's good to know - I hear the roos take a good two years to fully mature physically, but I assume their temperaments come to light once the testosterone kicks in?
I've had to rehome too many roos lately because of all the crowing...
Am really hoping to keep Moose as he is...
