I’m just curious… how do you pick up chickens? I usuall grab them with thumbs over wings and hands on chest and legs hanging free and then If I’m holding them for longer I’ll tuck them under my arm or cradle them. So how do you do it?

I'd say that I do about the same, then I bring them close under my arm or in front of me as well. When they are about 6wks old I have a technique... You put both your hands under them then your thumbs past their legs and over their wings and their legs lie freely through your fingers... hard to describe, but my flock has been fine with it. :)

And I find that chickens hate their wings or legs held, so I do this as little as possible and let them perch on my shoulder and arm. My Sussex was on my back this morning and clinched onto me. Then the other Sussex hen had escaped the coop and my Guinea hen entered the coop... I had to coral everybody to their rightful home with the hen on my back the whole time. :lau
