➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Set 41 coturnix quail eggs on 9th of June. Candled on day 7, made notes on light eggs and one questionable egg. Candled again on day 12, removed light eggs and left in the one that's (still) in question. None of the light eggs candled on day 7 developed by day 12. Only 23 eggs remain. Eggtopsy revealed that my duds were all infertile. Made scrambled eggs with them, shell and all, and fed them to my chickens since none of them were 'stinkers'. Humidity has been in the high 40's and low 50's in the incubator while running it 'dry'. I plan to add water when I lock it down in three days (will be shooting for 60-65% at that time, that's about right, right?) My last clutch of 25 eggs had 8 chicks hatch, but one of them I culled due to 'failure to thrive' issues. Still learning, and trying to get my hatches to turn out right.
Personally I would keep lockdown humidity 45-55.....since i lowered my lockdown humidity, I’ve had higher hatch rates with less problems overall

Can I get this week's hatch stats. Maybe last week's too.
8th JUNE: Hatched 8 of 25, culled one soon after hatch, failure to thrive issue. Expecting next hatch on or about the 27th. Originally set 41 eggs, currently at 23 after removing infertile eggs; will keep you posted on the count.

I'll just leave the incubator dry then, thanks much for your insight. I live in a tropical area (read that as high heat & humidity year round), you cannot believe how relieved I am to hear that I don't need to keep humidity lower! :gig

humidity commensurate with outdoor humidity is best!!! I’ve been hatching lately with broody silkies and that has taught me a lot about my individual humidity levels!!!:old

You have caught on quicker than most, I've been saying to lower the humidity during lockdown for years.
It's hard to tell someone when everything they read is high humidity 70% or higher! That was in the 'dark ages' when we had still air incubators and ran temperatures of 103 to incubate.
I incubate my quail, partridge, grouse and pheasants at 43% RH and raise it to 60 to 65 at hatch but usually it's around 55% when they hatch.
Ducks and geese are a whole different ball game. Higher humidity is needed for those eggs.
