➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Sharp scissor with a good tug at the end or a sharp knife.

I haven't done it but I stand close and dish out ordered pretty good.

Head first... Wait a minute then clip the wings and legs off.
The skin pretty much rips off easily.
Then cut up each side of the spine...pull that off then scoop out the insides.

Easy peasy if you do like me and watch.
This would be my preferred method. Standing several feet away and giving directions.

Husband keeps slowly backtracking on how much of it he agreed to do. :rant

Banty I apologize inadvance for asking this question, if you have already mentioned where you got you're button eggs, or maybe I missed seeing the post...but where'd they come from and how many eggs did you get?
From a hatchery/breeder kind of operation nearby-ish. I ordered about a dozen, got 20, set 18.

I bought a small killing cone and have a kitchen shears. Thought the cone might make it easier since the bird won’t need a hand to be restrained.
Perfect.

Planning to skin and keep whole bird. Figure that sounds easiest for a first try. How much meat is left behind if you just breast it out?
This is with the spine removed. I took one look at that narrow pelvic width and decided getting the lungs out wouldn't be possible the chicken way. That's in lbs, by the way.

Oh ok, if they are anything like the ones I hatched, you'll probably have at least 15 to 16 hatch.
I set 30 eggs and had 27 hatch. I didn't candle them...I tried once but it's nearly impossible to see anything other than if the egg is dark or light, you can see the the air cell and that's about all.

Shipped? That's pretty impressive. I didn't try to candle them either. I figure I'll check once they're far enough along for the CAM to be developed and pull the clears then. 18 days to hatch, right?

Yep, and mine all hatched at the same time...once they pipped it was only a couple of hours and they were all done...no stragglers or early hatchers.

Get a picture please.
I need a cone or a fake one really bad.
Hands free is going to be the only way I will consider doing it. And since I'm out of room I'm going to have to start doing very soon.

We tried about 5 different pairs of kitchen shears and I even went and bought some branch trimmer shears. They all suck.
Well we thought it would cut it right off but it didn't you still have to tug a little. Be prepared to tug. It will make sense once you actually do it.

The first couple of times Mrs I didn't give orders too much because I was holding my breath the whole time.

I've gotten to where I don't have to hold my breath now so I'm one step closer to not being a weenie.
