➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

B73477A0-CD35-4795-A7F6-B85C0851D7E2.jpeg Also added a couple of these to my amazon order as extra hideaways for the quail....they love my flowerpot houses and the guinea pig one that I stole from my son!

That would be ideal for button quail. :thumbsup
:ya yes i was thinking of a smaller version for them.....i’m kinda starting from “scratch” when it comes to the buttons.....as little benji is convinced he’s a chukar!! DH and I were watching him yesterday going between the 2 areas and wondering how upset he’s going to be when we have to bring him inside:oops: my son just “upgraded” his guinea pig habitat and his old one has a roof so i’m thinking of trying to find a place for it to see if it will work for the buttons. can you only keep 1 pair per cage or can you keep multiple pairs or only 1 male per more females??

I have 1male and 7 female together, no problems but every situation is different...what works for me may not work in you're situation. Also have had pairs and multiple pairs together but ultimately they started fighting.

What I have learned through all the years of raising birds is, there are no 'hard & fast' rules. Every situation is different. Alot of trial and error, until some combination works. Being persistent in finding a working relation for the birds is the best advice I could give someone.

thank you! believe me.....I now take all of your advice seriously!!! (well i always have but still managed to put my cart before the horse ) starting to wonder a bit if i didn’t falsely put all the blame on the chukars for the massacre this week.....the quail killed and cannabilized the 1 with the eye peck after they were separated!!

I had to seperate some Golden pheasant males, yesterday, I had 3 golden males and 1 Amherst male together...the 3 goldens decided after 16 months that they didn't like the Amherst male in the same pen as they were in....at least I caught them chasing him before any damage could be done...I've raised multiple males together before, no problems but for whatever reason, this time it just wasn't going to happen. :old

ETA - I have found that when separating birds that have grown up together, that when trying to reintroduce them, they will fight with the 'new comer' eventhough, they were raised together. Male pheasants are extremely territorial.

my “murder mystery” is finally solved!! Unfortunately at a huge cost of more birds! It’s ricky raccoons!! this time they got my favorite male pheasant, 1 partridge, and at least 15 quail. they finally left evidence of entry/exit......
sooooo instead of separation now we are focused on predator proofing!! now stupid question.....now that we know it was a raccoon.....should we eat the “salvageable” meat or throw it all out???
