➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I pulled the first one this afternoon when it was warmer and more humid(had been in for like 3 hrs). We have a bit of cloudage today so ambient humidity has been way higher than our usual 13-16%.

Yah should it be warm water? There are no zips just a few tiny internal? pips. I think they're determined to hatch at 2am.

Dog is my profile pic

Yes warm water and id do it :)

Whoops somehow missed that  or I guess wasn’t sure if it was the same dog or not haha he’s adorable. :love
ARE YOU ASSUMING MY DOGS GENDER?!?!
Lol jk everyone thinks she's a boy. We had to chase a cat off from the aviary the other night. It was funny cuz she was dead asleep and all I had to say was SOMETHINGS OUTSIDE WE GOTTA CHECK THE QUAILIES and she shot down there so fast I'm not 100% sure if it was a cat or a fox...

To bring it back to quail, the cub is cute but I imagine a full size bear would not be. Thankfully we don’t have bears here but do any of you have actual bears? Just curious if people actually deal with these guys on a regular basis. I imagine hot wire would be the only effective deterrent?
CC has bears. They wiped her flock last year? She has a lot of fortifications and motion sensor screech/bell alarms now I think. My friend up the road a 1/3 of a mile has an orchard and bears. They run electric currents on most of their fencing as a deterrent. BUT bears, if determined, will rip down your stuff and eat your snacks. Be it birds or apples...if they want to eat them enough they will. Friends had to pick up and repost 100 yards of electrified fence because the bear grabbed one end and ran the width of the area with it. Other people I know have cement foundation coops for chickens. They do a slab with 3 or 4ft deep "cement skirt" around it and then the walls are very sturdy with reinforced everything...imagine an Alaskan hunting cabin but with cement and birds

My eggs are hatching early. Literally walked by the bator this morning and heard crying. 3 out so far. I checked it 30 or 40 minutes before and there weren't any pips. Then bam one baby out running around crying. She has perfect legs and feet too!
One has been pipped since like 11am Pacific...had a few with flipped air cells when we candled at lockdown. I'm thinking these few guys started developing during shipping? I'll probably wake up in the morning to 50 chicks!
:barnie
mine started hatching overnight too (day 16) 5 out but i got a bit lazy and didn’t tape down the grippy (i knew buttons could go through, but i thought coturnix wold be ok):thso 3 are under grate! i have more actively hatching so i’m just going to have to wait it out :he:barnie

You can probably get sake at a regular grocery store. Mirin you can get at any Asian market. If you can't find mirin, add a bit more sake and a bit more sugar, and you'll be close.

If you want to turn it into a real teriyaki sauce, heat until it simmers, add another part sugar, and cook until it's a bit thick.
i’ve gotten mirin at kroger....

The occasional bear strolls through the property, but it’s been a while for me.
