➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

i’m trying to “fix” my problem.....i took the eggs out of j12 and put them into brooder under heat lamp with one of my thermometers (temporarily).....i’m getting j12 ready to transfer remaining eggs (waiting for a “break” in active hatchers) then I can rescue all the ones that have fallen through. once complete, I can get “grippy” properly secured for next hatch and put eggs back in turner!

problem fixed but not before 2 chicks committed suicide via fan :hit remaining chicks and hatching eggs safely in j12!!
i cleaned and put incubator 1 back together and set remaining 30/90 eggs. another lesson learned :smackthe hard way......”always chick-proof every aspect of incubator”:old

CC has bears. They wiped her flock last year? She has a lot of fortifications and motion sensor screech/bell alarms now I think. My friend up the road a 1/3 of a mile has an orchard and bears. They run electric currents on most of their fencing as a deterrent. BUT bears, if determined, will rip down your stuff and eat your snacks. Be it birds or apples...if they want to eat them enough they will. Friends had to pick up and repost 100 yards of electrified fence because the bear grabbed one end and ran the width of the area with it. Other people I know have cement foundation coops for chickens. They do a slab with 3 or 4ft deep "cement skirt" around it and then the walls are very sturdy with reinforced everything...imagine an Alaskan hunting cabin but with cement and birds

OMG! Those are some serious fortifications!

i’ve gotten mirin at kroger....

Thank you! This is good to know. I will look for it the grocery stores then. We have lots around here so I’m sure one of them has to have it.

The occasional bear strolls through the property, but it’s been a while for me.

That’s good it’s been a while right?

mine started hatching overnight too (day 16) 5 out but i got a bit lazy and didn’t tape down the grippy (i knew buttons could go through, but i thought coturnix wold be ok):thso 3 are under grate! i have more actively hatching so i’m just going to have to wait it out :he:barnie
I woke up to 11ish more. But I think one does not have eyeballs....

I SEE IT!
42 hours after setting.
This is egg #30.

I just had someone tell me that I shouldn't eat the first eggs produced by my hens because they won't taste right. My BS meter is going off, but I thought I'd ask. Is this true or not?
That person is a twatwaffle.
