➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Just 'helped' 4 quail and an extra svart Hona cockrel. Was the first time i saw the black meat in person and Wow!

It looks so odd. I wonder how I would feel about eating black meat. It’s not repulsive in the photo, at least. Have you eaten it? Does it taste different, do you think?

I have not eaten it and i am having sort of mixed feelings about it  it does look odd and tho i forgot to comment on it i appreciated @muddy75 s take on her silkies. He is in an ice bath going through rigor. How old were those silkies muddy? This cockrel is about 5 months old so im hoping hes not tough or stringy altho he had been crowing for a good month now

The silkies were probably 4-5 months had basically been crowing for a few weeks....you should be fine on age but I would recommend resting for at least 48 hours prior to freeZing or cooking.....that's what I've gone to with roosters and have been better

Yes ma'am, i always give them at least 2 days usually 3. Do u think brineing it wouldve helped the silkies?

Good i live in town the main reason i am going to quail is because then i can have roosters and not have to worry to much
I agree that quail rooster is not as loud as chicken roosters, but my experience is that my quail rooster starts growing at 4am and can go until 6-7am.. and we all hear him looouud. It all depends on how far the cage from your bedroom is

Mine were crowing 24/7 LITERALLY. None of them were eating just crowing, trying to hump everything, and pecking each other. Terrible creatures...
