➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Out of the 10 myshire jumbo males, one was terrible. Scalped another male. Crowed loudly and continuously. Mated everyone. He went to solitary and worried the walls off the cage. Flighty, jumpy and aggressive.

The 3 males in with the females crow rarely. Candle tonight to see fertility for QB#7.

Is it possible this is a sex linked trait? The Lucky quail (QB#1&2) is giving white females and mostly wild type males. QB#3 had the 2 pied females with wild male. The A&M dot on the head and a large dot lower on the body. QB#5 female looks like an A&M. Waiting to confirm, but her brother is male with white slash on his breast. He makes 8 weeks next week and they aren't fighting. I know, proves nothing.

Just an observation that I thought was unique. White females and wild males.

Do you want ten random color babies?

I dont like having this many babies at once.

I'm so glad I'm not hatching anything like you guys keep doing...I've had enough for one season.
quick question....I know the pheasants most likely won’t lay until breeding season next year regardless of age.....but what about the chukars? is there a chance of any laying this fall? they are almost 5 months.

Nope, next breeding season... their seasonal breeder's as well.

Yes ma'am, i always give them at least 2 days usually 3. Do u think brineing it wouldve helped the silkies?
been discussing with DH....he recommends pressure cooking halfway and breaking down the meat to use in a heavily spiced or sauced recipe....like and indian or thai dish. he said brining may be beneficial as well.....

I've got 30 1 week olds that are killing themselves, 50 eggs in the incubator, and you are offering me more? I don't see why not. The teenager chickens are doing well, too. Would you like some not so jumbo eggs?

I mean, I've got a cage that isn't full yet. And picked up a rabbit cage from the dump this week. I want to shuffle birds, but then they'd stop laying. And winter is coming. Need to get those lights on.

Maybe if you put them in 2 different containers it wouldn't be as bad? :lau You know, spread the poop out.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I'm still undecided on meat chickens this fall. Know we are eating quail. Just don't know how many I'll need. Does your chicken store have broilers? I don't want a complete order. I just might want a couple.

I did it. View attachment 1906273

Edit: I'm surprised that it only took me about 20 minutes. I had some help. The roommate held them still. I'm not sure I could have held them still enough by myself.
Good job!! :highfive:
I have a bunch of birds to process. Not really looking forward to it, because some of them are pets. :hmm
My chicken hatches are quite different i seem to only hatch a male or two and more females ive hatched probably 60 chickens in the past year and i have ended up hatching 4 males

Edited: I think i may have two males in the brooder now so make that 6 males
That's incredible. Tell me your secret. :bow
