➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

My chicken hatches are quite different i seem to only hatch a male or two and more females ive hatched probably 60 chickens in the past year and i have ended up hatching 4 males

Edited: I think i may have two males in the brooder now so make that 6 males

The others are either breeding stock or too young to eat.

And just out of curiosity are these birds quail or chickens or?

How many birds do you have now?

I think I’m probably waaaaaaaayyyyyyy too much of a softie but I could never cull my chickens.

But I totally get that it’s necessary. We also don’t get negative temps for weeks on end and feet of snow that would make caring for a lot of birds difficult as well as expensive. In fact, lately, we’ve hardly had a winter at all and I personally think we’ve gone up a zone or two in the garden zone thing. Watch, I’ll probably jinx myself with that now and we’ll probably have a real winter now.

But I also only have 11 right now including the 5 new babies added in April so it’s not a ton of birds or too expensive aha

Although my older ones are going to be 4 the end of next month.

But they’re all still laying pretty well. Or they were lol only 2 laying atm. But then again some are molting and I’ve had that broody hen in there a while.

Chickens. I only have ten quail right now.
I'm not sure how many of them I have—I'm down to 50 birds total, I think, but that includes quail/ducks/guineas. I'd estimate somewhere around 30/35 chickens. I'd like to be at 25 for winter.

I'm also trying to streamline my chicken groups down to three: Leghorns, Chanteclers, and mixed bantams. Right now I have quite a few random birds that take up space without being part of any breeding program.
