➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

so of course i didn’t sleep well last night but the inspection is over!! the animal control officer that was out with the city code enforcement officer said he loved my aviary but basically the city wasted his time and ours by bringing him out here because my set-up was more than humane (no overcrowding and no mistreatment). they both commented on how beautiful all of my birds are. As for the ordinance, until someone gets it rewritten....it’s limit 8. if it is outside and has feathers or fur, it is livestock. However, they closed the case and am allowing us to use our discretion but if a new complaint comes up, I can only have 8 outside upon investigation. So my future with quail is going to have to be cage-kept in the shed.
:clap:ya:ya:ya

Congrats

:clap sounds like they were very reasonable and just holding down paper that needs to be changed. So will you be the one to fight hard enough to have it rewritten? Did u ever put up a post in the laws and ordinances section?
I would love to be the one to fight it head on but not in a position right now to take it on! It just kills me though that 8 turkeys same as 8 finches in their eyes! If I put just 8 quail in my aviary that would just be stupid! Haven’t posted in other forums yet as I was waiting on today’s clarification but believe me I’m gonna be posting everywhere!!!! But for now I just have to start building my room with enough cage space to start keeping my quail as livestock

Sounds like you should keep turkeys :D

The code where I am says I can have up to 80 quail sized birds in an outdoor enclosure(s), on a quarter acre (more if I had more land). In an interior enclosure(s) I have no limit. So I created stacking cages and have them in a shipping container. Pretty sure the shipping container is more unsightly than an enclosure would be. I'm also only allowed 6 chicken hens, no roosters. I'm working on getting a new place though, that would have enough acreage so not restricted.

That’s awesome! Who would think that shitwater Indiana would have more strict ordinances than California :gig

I can't see any...I think you need more.
:lau With the new releases there’s like 70 quail, 5 chukars, and 7 pheasants! When I say those numbers everyone thinks I’m a hoarder!!!! That’s the reason today’s inspection also included animal control!!!! Now imagine only 8 buttons in there!!!!

Did they happen to tell you which grumpy neighbor called to complain?
