➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

One with a bunch of soccer Mom's that are worried about dying and protecting their only, precious child (did you know child birth is nasty and hurts!) from West Nile Virus and Avian Influenza. Add malaria, leukemia, and ebola on top of that. Every person with animal husbandry experience knows you don't just breed once, you breed a lot and let Darwin decide. Everyone should have spares. Cause, ya know, life happens until it doesn't.

News flash! You live in a swamp. There will be mosquitoes. Big bloodthirsty ones. With great, big fangs! If you don't like our swamp, return to your concrete jungle.

Apologies for all. Sore spot for me. Should I start on HOAs, the futility of a well manicured, mono cultural lawn, or the banning of livestock in neighborhoods? Yes, I might be a surly curmudgeon lacking in altruistic tendencies.

Don't apologize, I would be surprised if most of us on here didn't* feel the same way. Your bugs are a little horrifying but I'm not sure if wide-spread chemical usage is ever the better answer.

I'm pretty sure I've single handedly lowered property values in my neighborhood with all of my projects in the yard (sorry, realtor neighbor :/) but you know what, f 'em, see who they come running to if there's trouble. Or if they run an egg short trying to make a cake. :rant

@BantyChooks I am totally with you. I will take the hard freeze over most else (although I have to say I'm not a *huge* fan of the constant freeze-melt 20 F - 40 F winters we have here). I wish my plants agreed with me. At least I've gotten all chill-resistant critters.

Edit: *crucial "didn't," whoops

I almost peed reading this.

Snow doesn’t cause sickness!! LOL not if you’re bundled up anyway. Sure, it could cause hypothermia or pneumonia if you’re not but it’s beautiful and romantic and fun to play in. :love

I actually think heat causes way more diseases/illnesses/sickness lol

Let’s see....

Heat stroke, dehydration, sun burn, sweating your ass off, fainting, etc.

Then of course all the bug related diseases. The bugs alone are enough to make me want to never want to live anywhere warm ever again. Flies, mosquitoes, gnats, ticks, spiders, etc. and snakes. Snakes are awful too.

Lyme, EEE, West Nile virus, malaria are awful. Although EEE is way worse than West Nile.

At least with snow and cold there are NO BUGS.

Well, maybe some that try to sneak in the house.

My new rabbit is approximately 80% ear.

Her butt's a bit narrow. Her little sis may have been better in that regard (and also a tad spunkier, which I admit I enjoy) but I'm really happy with her overall. She's so outgoing for a youngster; she leaps out to hop around when you open the cage. We're becoming buds.

Awwww soooo cute!!!

@R2elk....my poults are around 3 weeks and i just moved them outside (since there is now a nice clean empty coop and run for them) my question is.....it’s temporarily dropping slightly below 60 overnight....should I run the cozy coop heater out there just in case?? they seemed to do fine last night and were at the window itching to get out this morning......
