None of my bantam cochins are laying now. 3 pens of them, not a single egg! Only a few seramas, the ducks, and CLs are still laying.

And I’m just getting my hatching fix early, before my broodies start up!
I usually sell anything I hatch inside. I let my broodies replenish my flocks, and handle raising and integration.

I need to take pictures of the chicks, but chest feathers are finally growing in and there's at least 2 boys. I'm trying to sell some of them so I hope there's some girls too. The red pharoah experimental group was disappointing, one looks silver and the rest look traditional pharoah. Going to set some eggs from all 3 groups at the same time if I can. Should be setting soon, I have a bunch of eggs I gathered to sell and gathered too many. At least the buyer got fresh eggs and didn't back out.

On extremely happy news, we got a turkey egg today!! I'm going to crack it open when I get home to see if it is fertile. Bourbon red hen with standard bronze tom. I'm hoping to hatch some turkeys this spring.

I'm jealous. I'm tryin to get my hands on turkey eggs. Another BYC member in IL is going to give me some it sounds like. She got rid of her tom already, but her hens went into laying recently. We are hoping the hens are still carrying the gifts of the tom to fertilize the eggs. Supposedly they can lay fertile eggs up to 2 months after having been with a tom. It will be a bit of an experiment.

This is the first year I kept turkeys over winter with the intent to breed them. Previously I just bought turkeys each year to raise for the holidays. I hope the eggs work for you, turkey poults are so cute.

I hope they work too, of course. I hope to get some turkey hens. I'm not going to keep any toms, I'll give them to fellow BYC members or put them in the freezer. I'd like to raise two hens for the holidays aptly named Thanksgiving and Christmas. It would be nice to have another hen to keep around and breed with somebody else's tom to supply future dinners as well. I cannot keep a noisy tom in my area - roosters are banned and while the lay doesn't explicitly mention turkeys I know I'll be pushing the limits of my neighbors.

Yes. Had trouble seeing anything so I stopped. 500 Lumens isn't enough. Even waited until the sun went down. Green glow and blobs in 6. Hatching next week as according to the prophecy. Lockdown starts... when does lockdown start? H-3 or -5? 18 days to hatch right? So lockdown starts Saturday. -ish. Hmm. Candle again on Friday. Maybe.

These eggs are so small. I've got fat fingers.

Should I start asking for another 40 eggs for 26th? Or will you be setting those?

For me, I'm going with 18 days for incubation. My research showed 17-19 days is the action zone, so I went with 18. Lockdown at H-3.
Just 350 lumens worked for me, but I was able to focus it through a small hole that the egg sat right into. The hole is slightly large than a #2 pencil. The flashlight I used has 1 LED in it, which I think helps too because that centered LED shoots all the light right through the hole I created and attached with duct tape to the end of the light. Glows and blobs is about what I saw around 11 days in (I tried candling a few a 12 days and saw the same as you ). As long as they are not clear that far along, they seem to be worth keeping. I candled just before lockdown and removed all the clears only. Developed eggs were nearly a solid blob with just an air sac at the fat end visible during candling.
