➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I could've used that yesterday when Fitz got out. Took me a good two hours to catch the bugger. Also, she's a girl! Could've sworn it was the other way around. I found about a dozen eggs while I was cleaning her pen out.
. You set them right?

48 hours in.
Zero hope still.

Do buttons bury their eggs? Was she intentionally hiding them from you? Are you going to play match maker?

The Coturnix will halfheartedly obscure the eggs. One in particular likes to dig in the bedding. Throws bedding into the food, water, and out of the coop. Terribly messy.

I think they just got scuffed in by accident. The bedding is pretty thick.
She's in with a blue male now. He's pretty 'fond' of her.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker,
Make me a match,
Find me a find,
catch me a catch
Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Look through your book,
And make me a perfect match

What was your revised count on buttons? Boys & girls.

QB#8 eggs are mostly from the white Lucky hens. Might get some interesting patterns here.

The Golden coturnix, are those just a lighter color variety of the wild type pattern?

:love:love:love......just watch your water that it doesn’t wick out and get the shavings wet. looks like first chick is a tux (scarlet or rosetta), you have a couple pansies so far (the little “painted” one is killing me!) red range (eyebrows), pharaoh,
falb fee, and a “yeller” :wee
Yeah, I constantly have to remove shavings & poop from the Bobs waterer, the way they have to run backwards to poop. Do Coturnix do the back up to poo maneuver as well? I've got #10, #11 & #12 in the bator still & more pips...

(x2 thanks for the info on the watering systems!)

It is a catch-all word for 3+ color mutations at the same location that can all kind of intermix. They're all golden colored, but beige have no black markings, golden Italian will have more speckles scattered throughout, and Manchurian types have their color concentrated more on their heads with lighter patterned bodies. They are feather sexable but I would say it is much more than just a dilution - the pattern changes quite a bit from wild-type.

Golden italian

Golden layer, which theoretically might have both Italian and Manchurian genes(?).
