➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I think I love the Texas A&M the best :love
The only boy I kept from previous hatch is the Texas boy, he's a lovely little thing, very sweet and his 2 girlies like him.
I wanted to hang onto the brown boy until I worked out the gender of these cuties -but all that crowing and fighting was driving me nuts!!! :rant

Amazing how fast they grow isn't it :eek:I wanna hatch more, right now!!!!

How are the peppers today kiki?

How many quail do you keep? Hatching 40 and sending/ giving eggs... you must have a lot of birds.
I am not a hoarder! :old Everyone needs quail eggs...I do not mind sharing.

I only have one male and 9 hens....well plus the 3 babies I just hatched... They don't really count yet.

I set the 40 eggs knowing that all would not be fertile. I was hoping that I'd get about 20 out of the deal. So far so good.

I plan to set eggs constantly for the whole year. Probably in batches of 20.

Constantly being every 4-5 weeks so by the time my next batch hatches I can send the grow outs to the freezer.

The peppers are chilling getting ready for some real cold weather coming this weekend. I hope they don't freeze to death outside.

No negative judgement from me.
I was hoping you had a lot because I intend to house up to 100 eventually. Going to get 50 out of the 60+ in lockdown at the moment, and then breed them later to get to 100. Ideally I will get 50+ pounds of quail (I figure that's 200 birds) in the freezer per year, plus keeping egg layers and breeders.

I gotta keep things small for now so I'm going to raise them in small batches and butcher at 6ish weeks.
It would be nice to raise 100 at a table me but I don't think I can pull that off.

Can you close in the sides some for them? It’s supposed to get to the lower teens up here. It was a good thing we held off on getting a creature this weekend.

And when you say batches of 20, do you mean 20 eggs or 40 in hopes of 20 hatched?

You know I change my mind often. I kinda play it by ear.
I might change my mind next week...I really don't know what my plans are.:lau

Once I am sure of about how many are fertile or once I finally separate the male with just a couple of girls so that I have a better chance of collecting and setting just fertile eggs....I will hatch/want 20ish quail to raise at a time.
I'm still testing fertility out.

Understood! I really need to do a full fertility test on ours. The few eggs I’ve done were fertile but I think his son was still around and mating when they were laid.
