➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

The peppers are chilling getting ready for some real cold weather coming this weekend. I hope they don't freeze to death outside.
yeah i was hoping to move mine to outside brooder this weekend....now with the weather coming, I’m just hoping my others (chickens, quail, etc) don’t freeze to death or get frostbit combs!! guess I’ll be cleaning up paper towels for another week!

Oh good luck with the plucking :sick I dont know if I have the patience..
Although their feathers are so beautiful, I think I am going to wash and use the (flight?) feathers for something.

I am chief dispatcher over here.. I have to really psych myself up. Got hubby to do the 2 fighty boys the other day. Oh, you should have seen the sad look on his face:hugs

I seem to have 4 Turkey boys and only 2 hens :hit I love them so darn much I feel awful knowing they are going to have to go somewhere :hit

In other news.. I can barely wait to start saving eggs from my 2 quail girls (second one laid her first egg today), and set them in the bator. I havent even cracked one to see if they are fertile (seems a bit too early), I cant bring myself to 'waste' a beautiful egg:oops:

Oh wow, sounds very cold. It doesn't snow at our house, but still I fret aboit my chookies in the winter (never mind the gigantic shed they have with insulated kennels :smack).
We are in a mega heatwave at the moment 41°C (? Over 100°F), so we are just keeping everyone cool and hydrated! My guinea pig does and inside/outside day/night dependent on the weather, so I think I will continue to do the same with quailies all year.

Quails really give you a lot in a short time. I'm still surprised by them laying eggs so soon, and we have the boys in the freezer for eating or making into doggie food. Meanwhile.. been feeding those bloody chickens since forever.. waiting for the eggs..

Here they come! :wee
I wasn't expecting hatching until tonight. 19 days is 11 PM. However, we have our first quail chick! My wife and I woke up to some chirping. My wife was first to get up and said "one of the quail hatched." I was like, "wha?!" (yes, without the 't') Here is two pics. Sorry for quality of the pics, it proved difficult to focus the camera on my phone through the plexi on the incubator since it is a bit foggy with the high humidity and the lights are dimmed since it is so early and still dark out.

I was there to watch this little one climb out of the egg. That was really cool. Only his besf was out when I went down to check on them and then he just climbed right out. He signed across some of the other eggs and then settled back here. I enjoyed the shell reak quick after he was out just because they are close together and he kept looking for an area to settle it seemed.
