➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

You have to post pics!

I need to find some time to revamp my button enclosures and make a few more. I have a pair of sisters, and their brother is with a hen I hatched from a shipped egg. She set on a clutch without me knowing and hatched 4 babies. Two made it to adulthood and look just like her. They are almost the same size so I need to move them before I can't tell them all apart.

I'll post on Monday when I come back to work. I have the app for my phone, but it doesn't work well at all.

I look for used guinea pig cages. You can get them for $10-15 each and they are perfect for buttons. The last time I built a cage (I turned a wooden book shelf into cages) I ended up with tendinitis in my wrist. Getting older pretty much sucks :old

Some people use zip ties or split ring bands to tell them apart. I have numbered metal bands since I have so many and have to keep track of bloodlines and breeding records.

Zebras? VERY dumb. I keep threatening to get them, but I don't have an outlet for the babies. I saw some Florida Fancies that I absolutely fell in love with.
yes i bought a pair of zebras around labor day that share a cage with my 4 buttons. time slipped by and I didn’t look for eggs to remove from the nest until they had hatched!! am hoping DH gets a new cage built soon so I can separate the babies with new batch of buttons!

Will my hens start laying around six weeks or will they wait since we have short days?
each hen is individual on timing.....if you are giving them supplemental light, you may get some eggs around 6 weeks....i’ve gotten a coup,e from new layers in the last couple weeks but most of the regulars have been from the older gals
