@Texas Kiki @Nabiki @muddy75 @FortCluck @R2elk @007Sean & everyone else too!!!! I thought I heard one of my quailies crow the other night after I put them in their new pens (they're 3 weeks old). Tonight I 100% heard one crow, I ran to see who it was and everyone's just looking at me. One of them is standing tall in the dirt bath with its neck stretched up while the rest are in their normal hunched over stance.... can I assume it was that ONE? (The one looking at the camera)

the finch babies are poking their heads out a lot tonight! they should be venturing out of the nest this week! 2 look fully feathered and bigger than mommy and daddy already! #3 still has a fuzzy head. they are adorable!! but i have to figure out something soon because it also looks like mommy and daddy are planning their next hatch! the cots are already leapfrogging so i also have to figure out how to transition them to cage.....i really want to keep them inside for at least another week due to frigid temps we are having so i guess i will try set up the cage brooder on a card table in the corner tomorrow ​

It was day #7 for my Pansy batch, so I decided to do a thorough candling. Removed 2 clears & 2 cracked, one looked like it may have a blood ring so I'll hafta check it again before lockdown. So... I set 30, down to 26 now on that batch. I'll candle the 59 Sexlink & Feather-Sexable in a couple of days. I'm really hoping for a good hatch out with both batches. The little buggers are just so darn cute!!!

not yet....it’s been difficult to catch glimpses of them here and there since hatch....will hopefully be able to get pics soon

As of last night and this morning, I have 4 button chicks out of 15 eggs. One looks to be Darth Vader, the other three may be normal. I'll confirm tonight when I move them to the brooder. Unless more hatch today, I have confirmed my male is a dud That's ok, I have a couple more normal males, and he'll taste great at Sunday dinner.

I can't wait for the Thanksgiving HAL.
I'm worried the few eggs that I have collected are getting too old.
I'm setting them today.

This will be another fertility check... My homegrown hens with my new large dark male.

I'll be setting only 6 so far...plus anything's ng that might get laid today.

If by day 5 I only see 2 or 3 developing I will call it then.
I am not dealing with only one or two chicks ever again.

No idea? Your best bet is to catch him in the act of crowing or vent sexing, I think. I don't know if he's old enough for reliable vent sexing, thought. I'm doing to have to learn how to do that since some of my current batch aren't feather sexable.

I guess that's an advantage of putting my home grown eggs in with another batch. I have the eggs clearly labeled, so I'll know which ones they are when I candle. The last four that I set weren't fertile. If none of the eight I set this time aren't fertile, silver boy is going to be replaced. I'm 80% sure that one of my german pastels is a boy.

He crowed right in front on me just a while ago!!! It was so exciting!!! He's the one in the dirt box.
